‘What in the cost of living crisis is that?’ blast Primark shoppers who bought tag-less items, not realising hefty price
DO you remember the good old days when you used to walk into Primark with a tenner and come out with change?
Well, Primark shoppers have recently been left horrified after snapping up tag-less or mispriced items, only to get to the till and realise the hefty price tag.
In one clip shared to TikTok (@alexathienitou), one woman named Alex begins: “Morning. This is a message to Primark, in fact, it’s more of a welfare check because….are you okay, hun?”
She goes on to say how she doesn’t shop in Primark very often for various reasons, but notes how she nipped in to get some hair clips, when she stumbled upon a black mid-weight T-shirt.
“I picked up two and a white one for good measure, because I go through T shirts like nobody’s business,” she explains.
“I headed off to the till, handed my basket over- this T-shirt…£12 pops up on the screen.
“I said, ‘excuse me – is that for one T-shirt?’ Because I had 3 in my basket?”
Alex then notes how the cashier confirmed that the “ultimate T” was priced at £12 each, much to her astonishment.
Holding up the receipt, she says: “12 great British pounds…and the worst thing is, it doesn’t have the price on it.
“So I’ve just merrily walked up to the till thinking, oh ’12 for 2, you know £6 a T-shirt.’
“No, that is premium prices…Primark, you’re not built for that.
“£12 for a T-shirt in Primark, honestly I’m shocked!”
She continues: “I actually said to the woman I was like, ‘no no not today, I’ll take one and see the quality of it.’
“But no,£12 for a T-shirt Primark – you’re having a laugh…you are not okay!”
Alex captioned the post: “I mean, there’s inflation and then there’s INFLATION. What in the cost of living crisis is that all about Primark?”
In another video, a second shopper named Hope explains how she needed to buy a white shirt for work and claims that when she first looked at the price of one it Primark it said £8.
“Already, I was choking…I was thinking £8? I bought this in Primark – what happened?” she says.
The fashion fan proceeds to explain how she headed to the till and was prepared to pay £8 for the shirt, along with £3.50 for some socks she’d picked up, but was horrified when the total cost came up on the till.
“Why did my eyes read £20 on the card machine?” she asks.
Hope goes on to say that because she didn’t want to look like a broke “b****”, she took out her Apple pay and scanned it.”
It was only when she got home, she realised the top had set her back £16 – and was not the £8 that it had read on the rails.
She penned: “Why has Primark gone so expensive?”
The posts have since garnered thousands of views and comments between them, with other shoppers keen to express their opinions.
“I remember Primark selling shirts for £1.50,” recalled one.
A second penned: “This is why Vinted is the way to go now!”
A third commented: “What in the world, these were like £2.50/£2.99.”
Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “I think it’s because they’re a Skims dupe – they still have the standard £2.50 to shirts but the quality worse.”
Another added: “Primark thinks they’re Zara now.”
However, one person argued: “What you are not mentioning here is this is tee is from the Primark PREMIUM range. The quality is amazing and the same would be £30+ in Zara.”
