BMW promises ‘new era’ with new all-electric SUV with faster charging & over 380 miles of range as launch date revealed

CAR giants BMW has promised a “new era” for its electric vehicles as they announce an impressive new all-electric SUV.

The Neue Klasse SUV is set to mark a huge turning point in the German brand’s history when it finally launches in 2025 with a number of huge upgrades.

Standing out as the next generation of EV cars, the Neue Klasse will showcase BMW’s latest, clever technology and give drivers a glimpse into the future.

It will be powered by BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology that has impressed critics and drivers alike since it was introduced.

This gives it a major boost of up to 30 per cent more range and will see it charged 30 per cent quicker.

It should also allow for a 25 per cent better efficiency for the car making it one of the best EVs on the planet for its battery life.

Based on the similar BMW iX3’s maximum range of 285miles, this new mighty EV could reach distances of way over 350miles on a single charge.

Standard models are also expected to use a single, rear-mounted electric motor – but some feel the clever platform could mean up to four motors can be used.

So far BMW has only released camouflaged test cars for the motor so exactly what it will look like on the roads is still anyone’s guess.

But the concept cars do give away a glimpse at the Neue Klasse SUV’s front end, fitted with a connected upper grille and headlight section.

The headlights are quite simple based on the concepts but BMW is expected to introduce a slimmer LED daytime running light signature to the front of the car.

Overall the new car is pretty similar to the rest of the SUV ranges.

The windscreen is set up to aid with the car’s aerodynamics but it’s the back of the car where the big differences are set to come into view.

The test car has a fresh set of alloy wheels on, all of which are wrapped in winter tyres.

Like most SUV models, the back of the car has a thick shape to show off the impressive width.

The Neue Klasse SUV does have a roof spoiler at the back that wraps around the rear window and flows seamlessly into the roof.

The tail lights can’t be seen in the pictures as they’re still covered but earlier images showed a thinner design than the cars of the past.

The Neue Klasse SUV will also use BMW’s Panoramic Vision full-width windscreen projection system.

BMW’s UI development boss, Oliver Pitrat, told Auto Express that the brand had nearly productionised the special windscreen technology.

Pitrat said that scaling it for different widths and curvatures won’t be a problem meaning it can be used across all BMV EVs.

The interior is expected to be typically minimalistic and utilise a bespoke look similar to the Vision Neue Klasse concept’s dash.

Like most cars these days, the SUV will feature a touchscreen next to the driver so they can operate the car’s functions at arm’s reach.

BMW says the wide screen of the i Vision Dee “anticipates the next generation of vehicles” – which includes the Neue Klasse SUV.

The flashy SUV is just the first model being produced by BMW in the new range after they announced “at least six” other all-electric BMWs are in the works.

The half dozen top of the range motors are expected between 2025 and 2027.

One of these will be a 3 Series-sized saloon that was first seen at the Munich Motor Show in September 2023.

It comes as Maserati revealed it is bringing an EV version of a supercar owned by David Beckham to the UK – and it’s so powerful it’s likely to blow your socks off.

Maserati also has further plans to develop its EV range in the coming years.

A new all-electric large SUV – thought to be based on Stellantis’ STLA large platform – which is expected in 2027 as well as an electric Quattroporte in 2028.

Meanwhile, Lotus will launch a long-awaited EV sports car priced at £75,000 although fans were hoping for something else.

The iconic new motor will be an “essential” part of the Lotus line-up and is due to go on sale in 2027, according to company bosses.

And a Bentley once owned by a beloved comedy legend has gone on sale for £150,000.
