How to dry clothes for just 50p an hour using nifty gadget from Wilkos as mum says she’s converted from tumble drying
WITH tumble dryers costing up to £1.76 to run for an hour, it’s no surprise savvy Brits are finding cheaper ways to dry their laundry amid the cost of living crisis.
That includes one mum who found a nifty gadget in Wilkos that gets her white, dark and colour loads bone dry for a cool 50p an hour.

She claims that after an hour, it had cost 50p to run – much less than her big tumble dryer.
“My tumble broke and I had to wait two weeks for them to fix it,” she penned in Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.
“I ordered one of these to try and keep as a backup.
“I’ve got seven big towels in there, two tea towels and a small dog blanket on an hour’s setting.
“It folds up flat too, with the cover still on against a wall or behind a door.”
Jodie’s post sparked a whopping 401 comments are homemakers were divided on how efficient the bargain device really could be.
But one Rose Bridge made a great point: the electric clothes dryer won’t shrink clothes like the tumble dryer sometimes does.
“I got one of these last year and I’m converted from the tumble dryer now,” Sarah Mills added.
For big families who do three loads of washing a week, a tumble dryer costs around £104.52 a year to run, on the assumption that a one-hour cycle costs the 67p average.
That means using an electric dryer at 50p an hour could save you up to £26.52 across the year.
“Discover the AMOS Eezy-Dry Electric Clothes Dryer, a lifesaver for indoor laundry drying,” a blurb on the Wilkos product reads.
“Perfect for those days when the weather just won’t cooperate or when you’ve got a mountain of clothes to dry.
“This robust dryer can handle up to 15kg of damp clothing, that’s about 25 items.
“Plus, with the option to add extra bars, you can even fit up to 50 smaller items.
“It’s not just about capacity; the dryer is all about safe, gentle drying.
“The warm air from its 1300W motor dries clothes effectively, mimicking the fresh air of outdoor drying but much quicker and more cost-efficient than a tumble dryer.
“Using it is a piece of cake. Just hang your clothes on hangers inside the dryer, zip it up, and set the timer.
“You can choose drying times from 20 to 240 minutes, either on the machine or with the handy remote control.
“What’s more, it’s lightweight and a breeze to move around your home, thanks to its sturdy, non-corroding build and castor wheels.
“Cleaning is simple, and when not in use, it folds flat for easy storage.”
According to the Wilkos website, the electric dryer is now £62 – £12 more than what Jodie paid for it.
