Smart foodie has cracked the secret way McDonald’s onions taste WAY better than yours and there’s ZERO chopping involved
WHO doesn’t love a tasty McDonald’s burger? But if you’ve ever tried to recreate the fast food sensation at home, you already know it’s not so easy.
Although they might seem like a throwaway ingredient the onions make a huge difference – and there’s a reason the ones in McDonald’s taste so much better.
The dried onions taste just like the real deal in McDonald’s[/caption] Steph used Kirkland brand dried onions but you can use any you like[/caption]One clever food has sussed it out though, so now you can dig into your favourite grub at home.
Posting the secret on Instagram, Steph Foster said she makes her onions taste identical without chopping a single thing.
How? by using pre chopped dried onions and rehydrating them.
“The secret is out and it’s easier than you can imagine to make your own McDonald’s burgers just like they do in the restaurant,” she captioned the clip.
All you need to do is mix the dried onions in hat water at a ratio of 1:2.
“I used 1 tbsp of dehydrated onions and 2 tbsp hot water,” she added.
Simply add the onions to a small bowl then cover with the hot water and let it stand for around 15 minutes.
Then the onions will look and taste just like the ones we all know and love from McDonald’s – who knew?
Steph said just 1 tbsp of the dried onions made enough for six burgers – so you get plenty of bang for your buck too.
She used Kirkland dried onions from Costco, but any brand will work the same.
Fellow foodies were stunned by the revelation and couldn’t wait to try it out.
One said: “I’m literally speechless. Also I’ve had these in my panty for years and never knew how to properly use them!”
“I’m totally doing this! Idk why but I love those dehydrated onions,” a second commented.
And a third wrote: “That’s exactly what we did lol worked there all four years of high school lol.”
Meanwhile, other food fans mused why the dried onions taste better than chopping them fresh.
“It’s because the dried onions have a milder taste,” one said, “same goes for mushrooms and other dried veg.”
“Yes, they’re not overpowering that’s why,” someone else chimed in.
And if you want the perfect McDonald’s fries to go with your burger – here’s how you can whip them up too.
Chef Timothy Clowers took to TikTok to show how you can impress your pals with the copy cat grub.
In the video, he started by peeling the potatoes and soaking them in water for a few hours, before then cutting them into circles.
Next, you chop them into fries before putting them in salted boiling water for four minutes.
He explained: “Then you are going to get your oil at 350F (176C).
“I used vegetable [oil] and I also added some duck fat in there to make them extra happy.
“You are gonna fry them for 12 minutes, and then you are done.”
