Shock news for big budget BBC show as it’s revealed future is in doubt
THE future of the BBC’s Survivor is in doubt after contestant applications for series two were mysteriously paused.
Ratings for series one were disappointing despite a plum Saturday telly slot after Strictly.
The show, filmed in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, reportedly cost £30million to make.
Fans hoped for a return after a call-out for contestants was posted on the BBC’s Take Part page in December.
Yet a new note on the Survivor UK website said casting had been paused, with further applications not being taken “as things stand”.
Host Joel Dommett said he was hoping for a return.
He said: “Fingers crossed . . . a second series would be amazing.”
The first episode of the first season featured castaways including a personal trainer, champion roller-skater and a one-legged surf coach, separated into two “tribes”.
As the series progressed players are voted out of their tribes one by one until the two sides merge and the game becomes a head-to-head battle.
Crucially, it is the ousted castaways who vote for the winner.
A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: “No decision has been made.”
