I’ve been using the same $42 holy grail primer to smooth my pores for years but found a $9 dupe that’s actually better
A BEAUTY guru has stunned after finding a budget-friendly alternative to Tarte’s Timeless Smoothing Primer.
She applied the $9 makeup product to one side of her face and the luxury brand she had been using for years to the other for comparison.
Jennie (@greeneggsandglam) has garnered over 212,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares beauty finds.
The former Sephora manager took to the social media platform holding up Tarte’s Timeless Smoothing Primer as she explained why she may replace it in her makeup bag.
“A little bit of a niche video but this has been my holy grail pore filler for about six years,” she said.
“This is the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer, if you’ve been following me for a while then you know I talk about this all the time.
“But the other day at Target I stumbled across this L’Oreal Paris Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer.
“Do they not look so similar?” she said holding up both products.
“Let me show you how they work side by side.”
Tarte’s Timeless Smoothing Primer has a 4-star rating on Sephora, where it costs $42.
Meanwhile, L’Oreal Paris Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer has a 4.2-star rating on Amazon and is currently just $9.
Jennie zoomed her camera in as she applied the Tarte primer to one side of her face using her fingers.
“Then let’s do this side going in with the L’Oreal,” she said applying the affordable primer on the other side of her face.
“Immediately it is a little bit smoother and creamier.
“I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I think I’m liking the L’Oreal side more.”
The beauty enthusiast finished doing her makeup before sharing her final thoughts on how the two primers compared.
She gushed about how Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer has always been a staple in her routine.
“This has been my holy grail for six years so the fact that this L’Oreal one makes my makeup sit just as smooth, just as poreless, I’m absolutely blown away,” she said.
“Absolutely a dupe, if not even a little bit better since it’s smoother, creamier, and a little bit easier to work in.
“Get the L’Oreal.”
“Spoiler alert my six-year holy grail has been dethroned [shocked],” she added.
The video racked up over 5,500 likes and hundreds of comments from people convinced by the review that they should buy the more affordable primer.
“Oh I don’t do primer but I’m gonna get the L’Oreal one!!” one person wrote.
“I love it L’Oreal primer is perfect on my mature skin,” another said.
“OK, that’s fantastic! I ordered it – always looking for a super pore primer!” a third chimed in.
“That’s L’Oreal blurred your skin like Photoshop!” another added.
