England 16 Wales 14: George Ford shows his best and worst as Red Rose come back to secure epic Six Nations win
ENGLAND came from behind to beat Wales in a nail-biting Twickenham encounter.
Steve Borthwick’s side got off to a nightmare start as Ollie Chessum entered the sin bin for a high tackle on Kieron Assiratti.
The Red Roses got a reprieve as VAR decided not to upgrade his punishment to a red, but he was soon joined in the sin bin by Ethan Roots, leaving England down to ten men.
Things went from bad to worse for England as Wales then took the lead through a penalty try.
But the hosts worked their way back into the game and when Ben Earl touched down they had a chance to level the game.
However George Ford was unable to take his conversion as he hesitated in his run-up, allowing Wales to clear.
The visitors must have thought it was going to be their day, particularly when Alex Mann beat two defenders to score Wales’ second try of the match.
Wales led 14-5 at half-time but England fought back brilliantly, and Ford’s 48th-minute penalty gave them some much-needed momentum.
England then started playing their best rugby of the match and got their reward when Fraser Dingwall touched down in the corner.
Ford missed the resulting tricky conversion but soon kicked England in front as he kicked a close-range penalty – Mason Grady was yellow-carded for the deliberate knock-on which resulted in the penalty.
That gave England the lead for the first time in the match in the 72nd minute.
They then looked the more likely team to score again before seeing out a 16-14 victory.
