Future cars will FLY, have sideways wheels, no rear windows & look like space buggies – will you hop in a new-age ride?
THE UK’s roads could begin to look very different as cars of the future make their way into the present.
Despite the introduction of automatic cars and electric vehicles in years gone by, things look like they could be taken to the next level very soon.
Some incredibly whacky designs for futuristic models have featured sideways wheels and no rear windows, while others look like space buggies and can even fly.
But while we’re used to seeing these types of things in films like Back To The Future, they could soon become our reality.
With this in mind, here are some of the most weird and wonderful designs for upcoming cars.
Polestar 4
The Polestar 4 is a upcoming car that will be the first in the world to be made without a rear window.
Set to be launched in the UK in a bid to provide a clearer view for drivers, Polestar’s latest model will use a screen instead of a traditional rear window.
Using a camera mounted on the roof of the car to live stream a view of the road to the screen inside, the idea is that it will provide a better scope of vision for drivers.
Another benefit is that rear-seat passengers will ride more comfortably with the roofline pushed back behind their heads thanks to freed space from no window.
Nonetheless, the camera’s definition will be especially useful at night, when low visibility and glare pose a danger to drivers.
Hyundai Mobion Concept
Hyundai may have solved parallel parking issues for everyone around the world following the launch of their Mobion Concept.
The South Korean car manufacturer has designed a motor that can rotate 360 degrees thanks to its so called “e-Corner System”, which also allows it to drive diagonally.
With all four wheels capable of turning all the way around, the feature is ideal for parking in built up areas where space is restricted.
There is also a “crab drive” feature that allows the motor to basically inch sideways, in which each wheel has its own electric motor.
The Mobion can also project lights on the ground to let other drivers know what its about to do next as well as notify pedestrians that they’ve been detected.
Toyota Land Hopper
While the Polestar and Hyundai models offer improved features for easier driving, you won’t find a more futuristic looking car than Toyota’s proposed Land Hopper design.
The mind-boggling electric vehicles will not only be foldable, but it is also capable of being driven on Mars – should you ever need to!
Vehicle experts claim that Toyota’s remarkable design could climb 50cm-tall boulders and 25-degree slopes – conquering rough terrain found in places such as “the Red Planet”.
While the foldable Land Hopper will also boast wheels which raise and lower height, it’s been suggested that it would not require a driver’s licence.
Nonetheless, Toyota have described the model as “electric-powered with outstanding driving performance.”
Alef Flying Car
Quite literally the definition of futuristic, California-based Alef Aeronautics have produced an amazing flying car which could make Back to the Future-style highways a reality.
Influenced by the 1985 sci-fi film, Alef claims their model is also drivable on public roads.
And thanks to its has vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, it can take off to avoid traffic jams.
As they continue to design and develop the world’s first real flying car, the company claims it will be 100% electric in order to provide an environmentally friendly and faster commute.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has already issued a Special Airworthiness Certification for the futuristic vehicle, meaning they could take to the skies soon.
