Gavin and Stacey returning after five years off screens after breaking records with Christmas special episode

GAVIN and Stacey will return for another Christmas special after five years off air.

The last outing of the beloved British comedy in 2019 was the most-watched show in a decade and was left on a cliffhanger.

Now Deadline has reported that James Corden and Ruth Jones have secretly worked on a brand new episode.

Filming will begin this summer, with the majority of the main cast likely to return.

Other stars Matthew Horne and Joanna Page in the titular roles along with an ensemble cast including Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Julia Davis.

More than 18 million people tuned in to what was thought to be the sitcom’s final outing, which saw Nessa (Jones) propose to loveable Smithy (Corden).

But rumours of a reunion grew after James returned home to the UK after ending his eight-year long tenure on the Late Late Show in the US.

It is reported that the series is in development/pre-production and will be produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow, Jones’ Tidy Productions and Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by Corden.
