My four-ingredient DIY hair mask is as good as Olaplex – a cheap essential is great for growth and strength
SHE’S built her social platform on creating colorful, culinary feasts.
But she’s now discovered beauty magic in food too.
Her four-ingredient DIY hair mask is as good as high-end haircare provider Olapex.
It’s a whole lot cheaper too and is great for growth and strength.
She hashtagged her post Olaplex, comparing the DIY mask to the cult hair product, which stylists across the globe recommend for frazzled locks.
Shaya Terese Taylor (@shaynateresetaylor) has 1.2 million followers on TikTok.
Living in Italy, she admits she is an “American raised with a European heart.”
She has embraced the Mediterranean food culture and has now incorporated it into her beauty regime.
“Homemade hair mask for growth and strengthening,” she said in her post.
She and a friend covered their hair – and faces – in her DIY mask.
Central to this recipe was the humble egg.
“Egg yolk has so many essential vitamins and minerals in it,” she said.
“Especially if you source a good quality, organic free range chicken.”
DIY Hair Mask
Ordinarily, Shaya Terese Taylor (@shaynateresetaylor) cooks up a culinary storm in her TikTok posts. But she has discovered the secret to good hair care could lie in food too.
Ingredients:
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon raw organic honey
- 1 teaspoon coconut or almond oil
- 1 teaspoon steeped nettle tea or nettle extract
- 3 drops of frankincense essential oil
- Double or triple recipe depending on hair length
Method:
- Mix ingredients
- Apply to scalp and hair ends
- Leave as long as you think necessary
- Rinse as normal
“So doing this is extremely nourishing, not only for the hair growth in the scalp, but you should also put it in the ends.”
“We’re going to leave this on for as long as we feel necessary,” she wrote.
Commenters were stunned to see she was using her hair mask on her face too.
“Did you put egg yolk on our face?” asked one commenter.
Shaya’s reply was a simple “yes.”
Other viewers felt they might give this hair mask a go.
“Trying this and can’t wait,” said one person.
“I have done this before and I liked it. Just in my face though,” observed another.
