Facebook admits ‘it’s not you, it’s us!’ as users complain about annoying chirping noise on iPhone app

FACEBOOK fans are being “driven mad” by a mysterious noise that randomly pings in the app.

Users have complained about a “chirping” sound playing whenever they scroll through the social network on an iPhone.

“The latest Facebook app for the iPhone makes a noise when you scroll,” one person wrote.

“It’s driving me nuts.”

Another fumed: “That noise Facebook is making while I scroll is the quickest way to get me to exit that app!”

A third added: “Just turn off the chirping noise when I use iPhone.

“It’s making my brain hurt. It’s already annoying with all the ads.”

Facebook has admitted that the sound is a “technical error”.

Andy Stone, Meta‘s Communications Director, said: “Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone?

“It’s not you, it’s us! And it’s an unfortunate technical error that we’re in the process of fixing.”

A fourth moaned: “Why Facebook been making that extra noise??!”

How to switch off Facebook chirping sound

Facebook is still working on a proper fix for the chirping sound in its iPhone app.

But there is a way to switch it off manually for now.

Follow these steps or hit play on the video at the top of this page.

• Open the Facebook app and tap the Menu button in the bottom right
• Scroll down and select Settings & Privacy
• Then tap Settings
• Scroll down to Media
• Turn the In-app sound toggle off
