‘Works wonders!’ 70p hack ‘kills algae and weeds’ leaving your patio ‘bright’ and clean by morning
AS winter is almost over, many of us are getting the garden ready for spring.
If your garden is in desperate need of some TLC, there is an easy way to revive your outdoor space for less – with a 70p cleaning tool.

Whilst you mightbe dreaming about hazy summer days, there is one annoying chore that will need to be ticked off your to do list: cleaning the patio.
The unavoidable chore isn’t pleasant, with most homeowners spending hours scrubbing at their paving stones.
However, one cleaning whizz has found a way to get your garden looking great again with a household essential – and it requires minimal scrubbing (yes, you read that right).
It’s after one desperate Facebook user asked how they could clear up their patio, which had become overgrown with weeds last summer.
Sharing a photo of their grimy garden, they asked the Mrs Hinch cleaning tips group: “Can anyone recommend a good patio cleaner…mine [is] in an awful mess and got to get the weeds out first.”
Thankfully, another member had a surprisingly simple solution: household bleach.
Though it sounds too good to be true, a commenter claimed that they’d given their outdoor space a major revamp with the cleaning product – and it even lightened their paving stones.
She explained that used it with a hard bristled broom, writing: “Bleach and a yard brush. Give it a good scrub and then rinse. The bleach will kill the algae and the sun will brighten the bricks by the morning and each day afterwards.”
Even more amazingly, this hack will save you a small fortune as you can pick up bottles of bleach for less than a pound at most supermarkets.
When you compare this to the cost of a pressure washer, the savings are even more staggering as most devices will retail between £50 – £150.
Meanwhile, you can pick up a bottle of thick bleach from Sainsbury’s for just 70p – which kills 99 per cent of bacteria and had added lime scale removing ingredients.
Before you rush out and buy the largest bottle you can find, home owners should note that the cleaning product can be highly toxic.
Though it’s great for removing moss and algae, the Pet Poison Helpline says that it can cause skin and fur irritation in pets.
Even more alarmingly, the household cleaner can cause vomiting and upset stomachs if your pet accidently ingests it.
It can also kill plants due to it’s high pH level and it makes the soil extremely alkaline when applied.
Whilst it’s great for treating weeds, we recommend thoroughly washing away any lingering residue and making sure to be careful when applying bleach to your patio.
Alternatively, you can use boiling water to help clear your patios as it will help to kill any moss and weeds that have made their way through the cracks.
Seems like you’ve got no excuse for not getting this chore ticked off your list.
