This Morning star announces she’s pregnant and apologises to fans for keeping it secret
SIAN Welby has revealed she is pregnant with her first child.
The Capital Breakfast host, who recently presented This Morning, shared the news with fans today – and said sorry for keeping it secret.
Speaking on air today, Sian, 37, said: “I’ve got a bit of an announcement for you! I’m pregnant! I don’t know how I’ve managed to keep it from you for so long.
“The lies, the deceit, the mocktails! I couldn’t wait to tell you. This is a whole new journey for me and I want to take you all on it with me, and don’t worry I’m not going anywhere!
“This is going to be a lot of fun and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
Sian is engaged to radio producer Jake Beckett, who popped the question last summer.
Reacting to the news, Sian’s co-hosts Roman Kemp said: “Oh my god! Oh mate I’m so happy for you and Jake as well!” and Chris Stark said: “Is this real? It is the most exciting news ever!”
Sian was inundated with texts and calls from Capital listeners this morning congratulating her on the news.
Sian will take a break during the Summer but will return to Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby later in the year.
The star stepped into main hosting duties on This Morning this year for the first time after having appeared as a roving reporter and showbiz expert.
She appeared alongside Dermot O’Leary and drew inevitable comparisons to former host Holly Willoughby, who quit the show in October last year after 14 years.
Speaking afterwards about landing such a big gig and the comments about Holly, Sian said: “I reckon if you stepped into any job where somebody had been there for years, you’d get comparisons.
“I’m obviously not offended by it because I love Holly, she’s an idol to me. I see it as a massive compliment! But at the same time, I don’t read anything into it. In showbusiness, you can’t overthink anything and I’m just grateful I got to do that week. I’d love to do more.”
Sian’s fiance Jake Beckett is a producer on the breakfast show at Heart, hosted by Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.
Just last week, Sian admitted that wedding plans have been on pause to allow her to focus on work for a while – the stint on This Morning is giving rise to other opportunities.
She said: “This feels like a work year for me and I’ve got to get my head down and crack on.”
