Mum-to-be left ‘feeling dirty’ after finding carpet beetles in her bedroom, as she pleads for help to get rid of them
A MUM-TO-BE has pleaded for help and advice after discovering eight carpet beetles in her bedroom.
Latoya took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook to share a picture of one of the offending creatures, as she admitted she doesn’t even have carpet in the room – so is unsure where they came from.
“Help! I’ve found about 8 carpet beetles in my bedroom today,” she wrote.
“The room has no carpet what so ever as we’ve not long moved in and can’t afford it at the moment so it’s still floor boards.
“No other rooms seem to be affected.”
Adding that she feels “so dirty and awful”, Latoya revealed her due date is just two weeks away, so she’s “really desperate to get this sorted”.
She’s made a start on getting rid of the bugs herself – gutting the room, hoovering everywhere and cleaning the windows and window sills with white vinegar.
She’s also “sprayed white vinegar round all the edges of the room”.
But she concluded: “Anyone got any other tips to ensure I’ve totally got rid of them for good?”
People quickly took to the comments section to reassure Latoya, with one writing: “We get these in our house every year usually March/April but this year we saw some in February probably due to warm weather.
“I always use this spray Zero In from Amazon and it’s very effective.
“Regularly hoover / wipe surfaces and keep things off window sill.
“As you are pregnant I recommend wearing a mask.
“Then once the area has been cleaned, spray this in the room quite heavily and shut the doors!!
“You’ll find if you do this they will not come back and if they do then repeat the process.”
The Zero In Carpet Beetle and Moth Killer spray is sold on Amazon for £7.67.
“If you have a divan bed in your bedroom check the base they seem to like divan bed bases,” another added.
“I had a problem with them couldn’t find the source at first and then found them in divan base, I burnt it lol.
“Took 3 years to get rid of them completely out of the house they just kept coming back every spring.
“Good luck, I lost my mind trying to get rid of them – I was also pregnant at the time of finding them.”
“I had these in my old house and they freaked me out,” a third admitted.
“I got an insect spray from pets at home and got rid of them and they never returned!
“May be harmless but I wasn’t wanting bugs in my house.”
“First of all, don’t be feeling dirty,” someone else wrote.
“It’s a insect – they are everywhere, new house or old house we will all have something lurking somewhere.
“Mine are wood lice, I find them everywhere, or worse the slugs!”
