My husband is so fit but I don’t know if marriage will last says Katherine Ryan after revealing how little they have sex

MOST celebrities keep marital woes under wraps, but Katherine Ryan has never been shy about exposing the inner workings of her relationship.

From revealing that she and husband Bobby Koostra sleep in separate beds, to confessing how often they have sex, Katherine, 40, is an open book.

Now, the refreshingly honest comic admits she doesn’t know if her relationship with childhood sweetheart Bobby, 41, will go the distance, following their civil partnership in late 2019.

“We’ve only been married five years, but 50 years? I don’t know,” she says bluntly.

“Everyone’s happy after the first five whereas I’m more about, ‘Can we make it to 20 years and 40 years and 50 years?’”

With the average UK marriage lasting just shy of 12, Katherine is realistic, if unromantic.

But one thing she is sure of is just how attractive her husband is — admitting it’s a big reason their marriage works.

She says: “It’s easy to love him — look how fit he is.”

The busy mum of three — who shares kids Fred, two, and Fenna, 14 months, with Bobby, as well as 14-year-old daughter Violet with ex-boyfriend Alex Edelman — recently confessed her husband had fallen down her priority list.

She said: “I personally co-sleep [with daughter Fenna], I spend so much time with my kids, I’m an attachment parent.

“I potty-trained them really, really young which was controversial, I carry them everywhere.

“Maybe my marriage takes a back seat.”

But she is not alone.

One study found 82 per cent of parents who co-sleep with a baby say it has strained relations with their other half.

Canadian Katherine shares one bedroom with Fenna, and her husband another with their toddler Fred.

During a recent episode of W docu-series Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance, Bobby admitted this is all less than ideal.

He said: “I do kind of miss sleeping with my sexy wife.

“It’s probably not been great for intimacy.

“So we kind of are missing a couple of different important connections for any relationship really.”

Katherine caused a stir earlier this year when she revealed she and Bobby “have sex exactly twice a month”.

But she has since revealed things have picked up.

Referring to the number of times they get busy, she said: “That number has gone up a bit as the kids have got older.

“It’s important.

“Luckily my husband Bobby and I haven’t been married that long and still really fancy each other.

Separate bedrooms

“But in reality, working parents who have small children are so knackered by nighttime, intimacy is just off the table.

“We find stolen moments in the day like before heading to work or during a nap, which isn’t always very alluring.”

Katherine and Bobby, who works in broadcasting, originally dated as teens in Canada — then got back together 20 years later, in 2019, after a chance meeting at a pub in Canada while she was visiting from the UK where she is now based.

They tied the knot just eight months later, in a low-key civil ceremony.

But while it might be a celebrity trend to renew wedding vows — like Rochelle and Marvin Humes, Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch, and Motsi Mabuse and Evgenij Voznyuk — don’t expect Katherine and Bobby to follow suit.

She says: “We didn’t even have a first wedding, so I very much doubt we’ll have a renewal of vows.

“We just got married because he couldn’t stay in the country other-wise and I loved him, so that’s why we did that.

“I’m not a traditionalist in the sense that I wanted a big white wedding, but secretly, even though I never thought I’d be married, I do like using the word husband.

Chance meeting

“I like saying, ‘My husband . . . my husband leaves wet towels on the floor.’

“It’s romantic. But being a bride has never been for me.

“I get enough attention in my life.”

Having had her two youngest kids so close together, she says more children are not on the cards any time soon.

“I had my daughter Violet when I was 25 and I had loads of energy,” she says.

“Now I’m 40, I love my children, but I’m a bit more tired.

“I would like another one half the time then other days I change my mind — so I don’t know. We’ll see.

“Children are the most wonderful blessing and you never regret having them, but my skin has certainly suffered.

“So maybe another child . . . and a facelift.”

But does having two toddlers a little later in life not keep her young at heart?

“No,” she says. “I had them very later in life and feel old now.”

It’s eldest daughter Violet who Katherine says “steals the show” on her W reality series — but she insists the teen is in no hurry to follow in her mum’s footsteps as a performer.

“She’s funny, she gives great face and she’s got great comedic timing, but I feel like it’s because she doesn’t want to be on television,” says Katherine.

“She did it because she thought, ‘It’s a laugh, I’ll do it’. But she has no aspirations to be a TV personality. That’s why she brought such a natural, authentic performance.

“She wants to do real estate and interior design and she’s said that since she was four years old.

“You rebel against your parents, so she’ll just be really polite and always say the right thing — and do architecture or something.”

One topic outspoken stand-up Katherine doesn’t shy away from is the extent of her plastic surgery.

She had a boob job at age 20, and says she “thought plastic surgery was an aspirational, very Hollywood thing that rich people could do”.

She adds: “I wanted to be feminine and be liked.

“So I got breast implants. And they were great.”

Last year she hinted she might get more work done, quipping that her “boobs probably need redoing” and that she’d also consider liposuction.

But the Botox-and-filler fan claims she has not had “anywhere near as much plastic surgery as I joke about”.

Despite this, cruel trolls take aim at her appearance, calling her a “waxwork” and accusing her of “looking like she’d melt”, or even likening her head to that of a horse.

But when one accused her of going “too far” with the plastic surgery, acid-tongued Katherine replied: “I got breast implants in 2004 and nothing else.

“Suck my d**k b***h. Have a great day!”

Trolls aside, though, Katherine, who moved to the UK in 2007, is in hot demand.

She has a new panel show, Out Of Order, on Comedy Central, which sees her and Loose Women’s Judi Love captain opposing teams.

But could she ever see herself chewing the fat alongside the likes of Coleen Nolan, Ruth Langsford and Janet Street-Porter on the ITV panel show? “Yes, I should be a Loose Woman,” she says.

“I feel like I’m the loosest of women.

“I love being a guest on the show and really get on with all of them.”

As much as she’s famed for her risqué routines, Katherine reveals she has fans in some lofty places — including royalty.

“Princess Anne has been to see me perform,” she says.

“She behaved very politely and said she loved it.

“But that’s what you learn as a royal, to be polite all the time, so we’ll never know if she really liked it.

“I think she did — she’s funny.”

But one out-of-favour royal has found himself the butt of the caustic comic.

“Prince Harry knows I’ve written jokes about him,” she says.

“I can only hope those jokes are communicated properly, because what you don’t want is a miscommunication.

“I called him the Duke of I Just Came Bridge for a while, even though I know he is the Duke of Sussex.”

Her greatest affection, though, was for our late Queen, who she met at a garden party.

Katherine says: “She was the best, so beautiful and poised.”

She even recalls Her Majesty’s star appeal as having been like Taylor Swift’s — saying people went “absolutely mad” for her — and adds: “She’s dearly missed.”
