My date asked if I had thick skin & made an unbelievable comment about my weight – then he tried to gaslight me
A SINGLE woman had an unbelievably bad date that left a lasting impression on her and what she posted online.
Not only did he comment on her weight among other things, but he also attempted to gaslight her on their date.
Amy (@itsamyyc) keeps it real about the realities and struggles associated with modern dating.
She even shared a bad first date story in a TikTok video that she said was one of the worst dates she had ever been on.
Amy told the tale while she was getting ready for the workday.
“Get ready for work with me while I tell you about a date that was so bad that I had to just get up and leave,” she said.
It all started when a co-worker asked her out for drinks.
“We go to this pub, and we’re actually having a nice time. We’re getting on well. Chatting away,” she explained.
Thall all ended when out of nowhere he asked her, “Do you have thick skin?” which she was confused by and thought she was “about to get insulted.”
H said that he showed her Instagram profile to his roommate, and the other guy said that she was “pretty, but she looks chubby in her photos, so she’s probably going to be chubby in real life.”
“On a date, on an actual date, somebody said this to me. I just sat there kind of in disbelief,” Amy said.
“It took me few minutes to process it, and I’m looking at him and he obviously realizes, ‘Oh shit, she’s really offended.'”
He attempted to revert the statement and claim that since he’d met her in person, she was not chubby in real life, but Amy was not interested in hearing it.
“At this point, my mood shifts instantly, and I’m just like, ‘You have made an enemy, sir.’ I am pissed off,” she said.
She blatantly asked him how that would make her feel and if it was nice for her to hear that somebody made such a negative comment about her.
Then, she added that he tried to gaslight her.
“He said, ‘I never said it was a bad thing. You’re taking this negatively. You are taking this comment as a negative comment, but I never said it negatively,”’ she explained.
Amy suggested it came from a negative place due to how he prefaced it by saying by asking if she had thick skin.
She followed up by admitting that his words made her overthink what people thought about when they looked at her photos.
“I shouldn’t be thinking that’s a negative thing, but that’s just the society that we live in,” she said.
After giving him a “little lecture for a few minutes” about his behavior, Amy got up and left.
Viewers expressed their outrage and left supportive messages in the comments.
“No, he knew. They do this on purpose to try and downgrade you,” one commented.
“Very generous of him to show the red flags right up front,” another wrote.
“The audacity of the average male is astounding. I hope you are proud of yourself for how you handled it. I don’t know you, but I’m so proud of you!” a woman said.
“Thank you! Yes, I’m happy I’m someone who can stand up for myself in those situations! Gave him an earful and then ditched him,” Amy replied.
