I ditched my flat for a micro-studio in one of the most expensive areas… there’s no bedroom but I save over £500 a month

A TINY home might not be for everyone, but Sung, who lives in Santa Monica, California has done wonders with the little space she has.

She was forking out £3,498 a month for a small flat in New York City, so when she made the move to California she decided to save some cash by living in a tiny home instead.

The home is not much bigger than a parking space, but with a few savvy adjustments she’s made it work for her – even if she does have to cook most of her meals outside.

Sung, who is a designer, found her pad online and now saves over £500 per month since the move.

Inside, there’s a tiny office space which just includes a desk opposite the kitchen area.

In the same corner of the studio is Sung’s wardrobe, which is a an open clothes rail.

Her clothes won’t even smell of the food she’s cooking though, since there’s no working hob or oven in the kitchen.

“This kitchenette did not have a cook top,” she told Tiny House Giant Journey on YouTube.

“I solved that by cooking outside,” Sun continued.

There is a mini fridge though, which has just enough space for all the food she could need.

And Sung has made full use of the small cupboard and drawer in the kitchenette too, packing them both full of essential cleaning products and cookware.

“Because of the smaller space I only ever by exactly what I need and I’m always aware of what I have left over,” she explained.

As for the bathroom, there’s a standing shower, toilet and sink, but no room for a bathtub.

In terms of storage, she keeps baskets of products under the sink in the bathroom.

But’s the bedroom area that’s the most unique, there’s no space on either side of the bed so Sung has to crawl into from the bottom end.

“People have asked if it’s claustrophobic or if it feels stuffy but the amount of sunlight and the size of the door that’s in the space creates a really nice flow of air,” she said.

In fact, for Sung the space is more “soothing” than she even thought it would be.

Despite some of the hardships that come with living in such a tiny space, it’s all worth it in the end for Sung.

The location of her pad outweighs any negatives about it’s size, she said.

“I’ve become very present living in a tiny house,” she continued.

“You have to be intentional about every single thing.”

After sharing her story others agreed her lifestyle wasn’t all that bad.

“This is someone who has mastered the concept that to live tiny, you must be neat, organized and have just what you need. Awesome use of the space,” one person commented on the home tour.

“I think the intentional living aspect as well as wasting very little because you are more present and aware of what you own is invaluable. Kudos to her,” another agreed.
