JAMIE CARRAGHER had the perfect response to being called out by Gary Neville on Monday Night Football.

The Sky Sports pundits went back and forth after Neville called out Carragher for his “offensive” opinion on Liverpool and Manchester City’s rivalry.

Carragher had claimed their rivalry was the greatest in Premier League history during a discussion with guest Ian Wright.

The title rivals played out a 1-1 draw in a crucial clash at Anfield on Sunday.

However, Neville disagreed with the Liverpool legend on Monday night as he joined the show from Stamford Bridge.

The former Manchester United captain fumed: “Carragher’s statement that Liverpool-Manchester City over the last six years is the greatest rivalry is offensive.

“From 1998 to 2004, Arsenal won three titles and Manchester United won four, there was blood, thunder, quality. Everything you’d want in a rivalry.

“Over the last six years, Liverpool have won one title. It’s been an absolute demolition.

“For Ian Wright to stand there and not pull him up on it is unbelievable.”

In response, Carragher could not resist poking fun at Neville for his role in the infamous tunnel row between Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane.

He replied: “”Listen there’s no doubt, I’ve said that often, theirs was a bigger rivalry, they all didn’t like each other, he was running down the tunnel trying to get away from Vieira.”

The bust-up at Highbury in 2005 was kickstarted by Vieira confronting Neville ahead of kick-off.

Carragher doubled down on his claim, though, as he continued: “In terms of the quality, these are the better games 100 per cent. They never ever disappoint.”

Neville joked back: “We’ll have a Premier League winners’ party next time I’m Monday Night Football.”

Sunday’s draw between Liverpool and City has left the Premier League title race in the balance with ten matches remaining.

Arsenal ended the weekend top of the table after moving ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.

Meanwhile, City are a point further back in third place following the Gunners’ home win over Brentford on Saturday.
