Instead of placing the flowers in a vase and calling it a day, her nifty and simple trick improved the visual impact of the roses in her home.
“I’m going to do one little trick to take $9 roses and make them look super professional,” she said.
First, she removed the leaves and excess greenery attached to the roses.
“I know it’s really pretty but one, it’s going to make your roses last a lot longer,” she said.
“I can get mine to go a month and that’s because this is not going to just rot in the water.”
The second reason was that the roses now had more space in the vase.
Next, she positioned the rose upside-down and rolled the stem between her hands back and forth.
“Then I’m going to take my thumb and my index finger and carefully peel back the outer edges of the petals,” she said.
Ashley made sure to take her technique at a snail’s pace to prevent damaging the petals.
Once she was done, she cut the stem at an angle and re-arranged the widened roses in her vase.
One last tip helped her extend the life of her roses even longer.
“I always add a tablespoon of bleach to the bottom of my vases. It really gets your flowers to last so long, it just kills all the bacteria,” she added.
A florist revealed that her method was an industry-standard practice.
“Florist here. You are doing a technique called reflexing,” she said.
“Make sure the flowers are room temp, it will make it easier to fold the petals back.”
