I bought two whole chickens in Sainsbury’s for 10p… but some people were so greedy, I was lucky to get anything
WE all love finding a yellow sticker bargain at the supermarket.
But one woman admitted she initially “felt bad” for taking two whole chickens, marked down to 10p each, from Sainsbury’s.
However, when she saw how “greedy” other people were being, she urged herself to just be happy about the bargain.
Sharing a picture of the chickens, marked with their yellow stickers, on the Yellow sticker shopping tips, tricks and hauls Facebook group, she wrote: “Why do I feel bad that I took two? This will certainly help us out like everybody at the mo.”
After putting one of the chickens in her trolley, a sales assistant came over and put “eight Taste the Difference Steaks in the cabinet at 10p each also”.
“Two men took four each, I couldn’t get close,” she continued.
“I could see them eyeing up the other chicken so I thought s*d it, you’re not having it, I am and popped it in my trolley, as I was stood next to it.”
Another chicken was then put out, which was “quickly picked up by her colleague and taken away”.
“Do staff get a chance at these bargains?” she questioned.
“I felt bad I might have taken from a staff member as I imagine working in Sainsbury’s this weekend wasn’t pleasant with all the glitches.”
She concluded by writing: “I could see the shop worker looking at me, I hope she didn’t think I was greedy!
“There were three huge trays of chicken drumsticks at 10p left.
“Never seen 10p reductions before!”
The comments section was almost immediately filled with people defending the woman’s choice to take the chickens, with one writing: “You were there first.
“You need to eat just like everyone else. Why shouldn’t you take it?
“It’s not like you took 10 of them.
“Even if you did it’s your business.”
“Take whatever you want,” another added.
“Two chickens is hardly a trolley full.”
“I worked for Waitrose for over 16 years and we were only allowed these bargains if we weren’t working,” someone else said.
“So we don’t get preferential treatment.”
“Oh okay I feel a tad better now,” the buyer then replied.
“Staff was just really eyeing me.
“I just thought why reduce if you don’t want people to buy it?
“But I don’t like being judged!”
“Please don’t ever feel bad for taking as many as you will use and can safely store,” someone else commented.
“Food waste to landfill is one of the major contributors to climate change so you are not only helping yourself here you are helping everyone!”
