It took more than a year to find out the truth about my beloved car bought from dealership – now it’s gone for good
A DRIVER made a shocking discovery about his vehicle a year after he bought it from a popular used car dealership.
Steven Clothier unexpectedly had his car, which he had purchased through Carvana, confiscated by the police.
Clothier, from South Carolina, was told that the car had reportedly been stolen from a dealership before it was sold to the online site, according to NBC affiliate WFLA.
He explained that law enforcement officials had contacted him about a possible issue with his car.
The cops said the VIN on his windshield did not match the information they discovered while using an electronic reader.
This car was taken away and Carvana later refunded Clothier for the vehicle but he explained how he had been affected.
“It’s total devastation,” Clothier said.
“I put a lot of hard work into that car.
“I have a side business. I detail cars and I do ceramic coating so I spent a lot of time detailing that car, ceramic coating it and putting those parts on, obviously thinking it was mine.”
He added that he had spent a lot of time attempting to find the right car for him.
“I was kind of particular of what I wanted in it. And it was the only one I found,” he said.
“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s mine; it was meant to be,’ but obviously it was not meant to be because it was stolen.”
The driver also questioned whether Carvana had carried out a VIN check.
Carvana told WFLA that they had taken steps to correct the situation for Clothier.
“Customer experience is our top priority and we have taken steps to make things right for Mr. Clothier, including issuing a full refund and additional compensation for his time and trouble,” they wrote in a statement.
“In the rare case that we and our customers are victims of this sort of sophisticated fraud, we not only support local law enforcement in their investigations, but we also audit our internal processes to continue to strengthen our approach,” Carvana added.
