My seed starter is the easiest trick for new gardeners – everyone has it in their house, just put it on your window sill
YOU can now grow your own garden with a recyclable item that yields rapid results.
One gardening guru’s tips are so easy there will be no excuse for not getting a head start on your spring planting.
Collin (@saltyacresnc) wants to show you his seed starter trick using just one item that he says “everybody” has in their home – a styrofoam egg carton.
Intended for newbie gardeners, the “conveniently shaped” carton has a flat bottom for each spot that is used to hold an egg – and can be just as good of a home for seedlings.
As he cut the carton into two, Collin explained how the item allows for plants or seeds to sit straight up on a window sill.
He hopes this advice saves many from the rookie mistake of “learning the hard way” that using cups or similar items that simply hold dirt are not ideal seed starters.
That’s because nothing fits the shape of inside a window sill quite like an egg carton, meaning there is a good chance that a cup will wind up completely tipping over.
Next up you will want to poke some holes in the bottom of each egg-holding space in the carton before filling it with dirt.
He couldn’t emphasize enough that this was the “best way” to grow seeds if this was your first time getting your gardening feet wet.
The fact that it fits perfectly in your window sill wasn’t even the best part.
Since you don’t need a grow light, his tip is completely free.
Need seeds?
Not to worry – his seed company, Salty Acres, has you covered.
The brand sells a variety of vegetable and plant seeds including the $3.99 blue lake bush green bean seeds.
And the product had plenty of satisfied seed-loving customers.
“I just could not be more pleased. My plants arrived quickly and were very healthy-looking.
“I followed the directions that were given and they are thriving. I’m very excited! Thank you for providing such a great product!” said one purchaser.
“They came in in great condition and our now in pots,” said another buyer.
The watering process is also easy enough for any beginner – just grab a mason jar and a straw.
Just one or two “strawfuls” of water each morning is all you need to add to each space.
For best results, make sure you place your carton on your window sill facing the brightest light.
Many of his fans even had tips of their own.
“I have always done this and on occasion placed in a plastic bag for a greenhouse effect, works great!” said one follower.
“Use the biodegradable ones. You can transplant the whole thing into your garden,” said another viewer.
“I use K-cup pods,” a third watcher chimed in.
