My Barbie-inspired interior design tip can brighten rooms that don’t get natural light – just pick my go-to pink shade
AN interior design pro has given her take on how to Barbie-fy any space.
She said her advice can brighten up the home with her must-have shade of pink.
Emily Simmons, Creative Director at Ruggable, spilled her secrets to a Barbie Dream Home.
She said choosing the right shade of pink is key to transforming the room.
“First, you can go bold. Style your space with rich pink tones or a monochrome look that drenches your full space with a pink hue,” she said.
“Go bold with rich colors that can help make brighter pinks really pop.
“Navy, emerald green and orange are a few of my favorite colors to pair with hot pink.
“For a more monochrome look, choose a cohesive palette of softer shades, like baby pink and dusky pink, and incorporate highlights of black, gray or white to break it up.”
HUE FOR YOU
She assured that a toned down option is available for those not looking to go too bold.
“You can work with pink and still stay subtle,” she said.

“Minimalist pink styling can be perfect for an airy, peaceful space with blush light shades helping to make the room feel lighter and more spacious.”
Simmons said not to overlook accent pieces to bring out Barbie-esque hues in the space.
“You can add accents; pink is a great color for bold statement pieces or fun decorative moments throughout your home,” she said.
“One way to work pink into a space is to use the darker color, such as navy blue, as your main color, and use the pink as an accent color, to break up the darkness of the blue and bring a spark of joy to your space.”
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Simmons also recommended ways to “integrate” pink tones into any part of the home.
“Pink can be used in any room. From kitchens, to bathrooms, to bedrooms and dining rooms, it’s a super versatile color and can be worked well into any interior style,” she said.
“For your living room, you can add drapes, rugs or wallpaper in this color palette to give your room a boost.
She said that those looking to add a touch of pink can do it boldly or subtly[/caption]“And for bedrooms, there’s nothing I love more than statement furnishings like cushions and chairs to really make it pop.”
She also stressed the importance of where the natural light is hitting the room when choosing the perfect shade of pink.
“Pink is a perfect color for north-facing rooms,” she said.
“Generally known to be cooler rooms, due to the lack of natural light they receive, north-facing rooms can be easily warmed up, as long as you pick the right shade.
“A blush pink is one of my go-to colors to use in north-facing rooms. It’s a softer hue, which helps to keep the room looking lighter, whilst bringing a touch of warmth to the walls.
“If you opt for a hot pink or darker shade, it can make the north-facing room appear even darker, so I advise opting for a lighter shade of pink.”
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
She assured that her Barbie-inspired interior design tips work for maximalists and minimalists alike.
“Whether you’re going maximalist or playing it safer with your interior design choices, you can rely on pink to make a stylish statement with decorative choices,” she said.
“Like an accent rug or hallway runner that give a splash of personality.”
She stressed the importance of factoring in the effects of natural lighting on the shade of pink[/caption]Simmons highlighted the fact that choosing the right color scheme can make all the difference for a living space.
“The power of color is phenomenal. It can impact mood, as well as creating the perfect interior palette for your home,” she said.
“It’s also critical to consider how color relates to your overall interior design goals.
“Pink can be brought to life in so many styles and patterns.”
Barbie-themed interior design tips
Interior design tips for adding pink to your home:
- “For a modern vibe, I’d advise using a blush monochrome tone as the base and incorporating a range of tones to compliment it. You can do this by sourcing funky artwork, rugs or eclectic furniture in different shades of pink to really stand out against the subtle, blush tones. Blush pink really creates a futuristic and luxurious feel.”
- “If you’re looking for a more feminine aesthetic, lean into light pinks and corals and mix in florals, greens, yellows, and citrus shades. Highly patterned designs – especially in rugs – can add elegance and joy throughout your space.”
- “For a boho look, use earthy tones with blush hues. Lean into orange as a complementary color. Beige, sage green and brown compliment the subtler shades of pink and help to create a calming environment that’s fresh and modern.”
- “To create a sophisticated aesthetic, pink highlights and accents on rich color palettes, such as navy, emerald green and gold, work really well. Opt for maximalist patterns to complement and co-ordinate your upholstery for a real bold statement.”
- “Finally, if you want to go all out glam, hot colors like fuschia and magenta look stunning with cool, purple tones for a bold yet stylish finish. Pair with animal prints or statement furniture for a museum-worthy space.”
