‘Works like a charm!’ cleaning fans swear by £1.50 product to remove hardy toilet stains after woman begs for help
KEEPING your bathroom can be a totally chore, especially if there are hardy stains that just won’t budge.
That’s why one woman asked fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch with help getting her loo looking as good as new.
The cleaning fans swear by the cleaning product to banish stains[/caption] You don’t need to spend a fortune of loads of different cleaning products[/caption]Posting in the popular Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, Lianne explained that she spotted some hidden grime under her toilet’s rim.
“I’ve just noticed this in my toilet bowl,” she said, sharing a picture of some dark stains.
“Does anyone know the best thing to use to get it off please?
“I usually use the Dr Beckmanns foam before I clean the toilet but it doesn’t reach up that far and it feels welded on. I’m so embarrassed by it.”
Well, luckily enough for Lianne, the cleaning fans had the perfected solution to banish the grim stains for good.
A lot of people suggested using a 2p coin or a pumice stone to scrape the dirt right off.
“You need to scrape with a 2p coin, should come right off,” one said.
“Bleach only turns it white. You need to get scrubbing with something abrasive but safe on china,” another said.
But others recommended a quick and easy product that only costs £1.50 in Sainsbury’s – Harpic Power Plus Regular Toilet Cleaner Gel.
The cleaning product, which is also known as ‘black Harpic’ was a favourite of the keen cleaners.
“This happened here when the water people have been working on the pipes nearby. Which is often recently. It’s the water not you,” one said.
They added that leaving Harpic Power Plus to soak and then scrubbing off worked wonders for them.
“Harpic black bottle, leave it overnight,” another wrote.
A third agreed: “Black Harpic is amazing!!”
“Black Harpic is amazing and did mine amazing stuff,” another chimed in.
The product claims to be 10 times better than bleach on limescale and rust removal
The product description online also notes it has 10 actions: “Fast Acting, Limescale, Touch stains, Rust, Urine stains, Dirt build up, Under rim, Below water, 99.9% germs, Freshens.”

How to clean your toilet like a pro
1. Start with the toilet cleaner
First, flush the toilet so the bowl is covered in water.
Then squirt the cleaner on at the rim, allowing it to drip down.
Give it a few minutes to work, this may differ from product to product, so ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Clean the outside and return to the bowl
It’s best to clean upwards from the base of the toilet.
Start by giving it a thorough spray, ensuring you get the hard-to-reach areas like the gap between the tank and the toilet seat.
After the bowl’s been given time to soak, use a toilet brush to scrub it all over, including the bottom inside the water.
Then close the lid and flush it so the chemicals in the water don’t spray everywhere.
3. Don’t forget both sides of the lid
Wipe down both sides of the lid next – the side that faces toward you is blasted with toilet water whenever the toilet is flushed and needs a good clean.
You can also use a non-bleach spray, which you can apply and simply scrub off after giving it a minute to work its magic.
4. Wipe the seat on both sides
The seat will need wiping on both sides too.
To do this, lift the seat and clean both sides as you did with the lid, making sure to wipe thoroughly in the small gaps and the hinges.
You can apply your trusty non-bleach spray again here: use an old toothbrush to scrub around the hinges, and wipe it off after the suggested time.
