How is Rageh Omaar doing? ITV presenter sparks concern after falling ill live on air

VIEWERS were left shocked when they tuned into ITV’s News At 10 to see Rageh Omaar appear unwell on screen.

The news anchor appeared to struggle to get his words out which prompted concern from viewers.

What happened to Rageh Omaar?

On April 26. 2024, Rageh Omaar was reading the news on ITV‘s News At 10.

However, those watching at home noticed how the journalist and anchor appeared shaky on screen.

During the bulletin he appeared to struggle to get his words out which prompted worry from viewers.

After the scenes, ITV bosses pulled the repeat of News At 10 from its +1 channel.

A message on screen said: “We’ll be back soon. We’re temporarily unable to bring you our +1 service.

“We will resume shortly.”

It is not clear what happened to Rageh during the broadcast.

Taking to social media, viewers expressed concern for Rageh, with one writing: “What happened to him, is he ok & why didn’t they take him off air?”

A second wrote: “Hoping Rageh Omaar got the care he quite clearly needed after the ITV news tonight. Not entirely sure of the context and why he had to continue broadcasting, but I’m sure there will be an explanation in time.”

“Really upsetting viewing. Struggling to speak and slurring words,” said a third.

While a fourth commented: “I thought he was just having problems with the auto cue but I hope he’s feeling better.”

How is Rageh Omaar doing now?

ITV have confirmed that Rageh is receiving medical treatment.

The news anchor also thanked viewers for their support.

Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care.

When contacted by The Sun, a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed he was getting treatment, although no other details about his health were released.

ITV said: “We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing.  

“Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care.

“He thanks everyone for their well wishes.”

No further details were given and it is unclear what happened to Omaar during the broadcast.

Who is Ragehh Omaar?

Rageh was born in Mogadishu, and moved to the UK when he was just two-tears-old.

During his time in education, he studied at the Dragon School, Oxford, and Cheltenham College in Gloucestershire.

Before joining ITV, Rageh first worked for the BBC as the broadcaster’s world affairs correspondent.

In 2013 he then became a special correspondent with ITN and then later became a stand-in presenter for ITV News bulletins.

The dad-of-three is now responsible for covering major news stories around the world as ITV’s international affairs editor.

He also presents ITV’s current affairs programme On Assignment.

The broadcaster's gave this statement on Rageh Omaar:

We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing,” an ITV News spokesperson said.

Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care.
