The £1.99 natural product that will get your whites bright again, and it’s NOT baking soda or white vinegar
WHEN it comes to removing yellow stains from bedding, white vinegar and baking soda are popular, natural, options.
However there’s another way you can get rid of the unsightly marks without resorting to using bleach, and you’ll get change from £2 too.
There’s nothing worse than finding yellow stains on your bedding[/caption] But there’s a safe, non-toxic way you can return them to ‘sparkling white’[/caption]The solution is to use a product called Borax.
While commonly used in the US, Borax is banned in the UK.
However, there are some non-toxic alternatives that you can get your hands on, with one from Natural Collection setting you back just £1.99.
According to the experts at Delilah Home, Borax – and the budget-friendly alternative – is a “highly effective whitening agent”.
In fact, it’s so effective that you can even use it at a lower temperature in your washing machine, and it will still get your laundry “back to sparkling white”.
It apparently works the best when the fabric is soaked overnight.
According to the pros at Ethical Bedding, you should mix 125ml of Borax or the alternative with a gallon of water.
It’s best to use a deep sink or even the bath to leave the sheets in the solution overnight.
You can then wash the sheets in the washing machine as you normally would.
Once you’ve purchased the Borax substitute, you can also use it for other cleaning tasks.
The Natural Collection website explains that you can mix it with white vinegar to pop down plugholes to get rid of any clogs.
You can also use the “versatile and safe cleaner” to remove stains in the kitchen and bathroom, and it’s got “slightly more cleaning power than bicarbonate of soda”.
“Cleaned my whole bathroom with it, mixed with hot water in a sprayer,” one happy customer said.
“Cleans floors, walls, sinks, tiles…”
“Great cleaning product. Would recommend to family and friends,” another added.
How to do a strip wash
Strip washing is where you soak your linens in a tub with detergent for hours, which draws out all the dirt. Some people use different cleaning agents but the method remains the same.
- Fill a bathtub or bucket with boiling hot water
- Add washing powder, laundry detergent or borax – adjust the amounts depending on how much water you’re using
- Add your clothes and let them soak
- Stir every few hours
- Leave to soak for as long as possible, ideally 24 hours
- Remove and rinse in the washing machine
- Dry as normal
“Lifts the dirt wonderfully,” a third praised.
While someone else said: “I use this product in my washing machine to soften the water as I live in a very hard water area.
“It’s also great for cleaning the bathroom.”
“Good for heavier stains, cleaning steels hobs etc,” another commented.
However, there’s a natural alternative you can get for just £1.99 online[/caption]
