I sell on Vinted every day and cash in hundreds – my number 1 tip sounds controversial but it really works
A WOMAN has revealed that she sold more than 35 items in just a month on Vinted, making her over £300.
As a result, Mya Turner, 20, from the UK, has shared the top tips and tricks that she swears by for making cash using the second-hand selling app.
Mya explained that some of her tips are slightly controversial, but they’re essential if you want to flog your unwanted items.
Not only did Mya stress that listing multiple items at once is key, but she also explained that her timing hack shouldn’t be overlooked.
Sharing her advice on social media, Mya said: “So I have been bombarded on tips, tricks, how to sell on Vinted.
“I just want to say in no way, shape or form am I an expert of Vinted.
“I have sold 35+ items in a month and I made over £300 quid in a month, which is really good, so I just thought I’d share it with people who want to do the same.”
SPOTLIGHT YOUR WARDROBE
Mya explained that paying to spotlight your wardrobe on Vinted can ensure you get more people visiting your profile, but doesn’t always translate to an increase in sales.
She revealed: “So this bit of a controversial one, I have seen quite a few people recommend paying to spotlight your wardrobe on Vinted.
“I have done It myself and I definitely got more profile views, more favourites, but I wouldn’t necessarily say sales.
“I think I got two or three and I’ve definitely had more without it 110%, so don’t waste your money if you don’t want to.”
SEND THAT MESSAGE
Mya advised that sending people messages on Vinted is a way to shift your unwanted items, as she added: “Another controversial one is messaging people if they favourite items.
“If I see someone favourite a few things, I’ll message them and say ‘look I’ll do a deal for you, I can ship the next day.
“If I see someone favourite one thing, I’m still gonna message them saying ‘I can ship tomorrow’ or ‘offer me a price’, because I’ll probably accept it.
“And to be honest people need to have that mindset. If you’re listing on Vinted, you may not get what you want and you need to accept that.
“I will probably accept any price that someone offers me because I want it gone.”
POST IT ALL
According to Mya, if you want to make space in your wardrobe, you’ll need to upload a variety of items at the same time.
She recommended: “Another thing would be posting similar items at the same time.
“If I’ve got my sister’s old clothes, I’m gonna post them all at one time, because then if someone sees one of them, they’re gonna go and see loads of children’s clothes.”
BUNDLE DEALS
Mya explained that if you want to make cash on Vinted, turning your bundles on is a good place to start.
The Vinted whizz added: “If you turn bundles on, [shoppers are] gonna be more inclined to buy the items, and you can literally just do that in your settings under bundles, definitely something I would recommend.”
TIME IT RIGHT
The savvy seller also stressed that timing is key, as she explained: “Another thing relating back to all of that is posting at certain times.
“I definitely find posting at times between 3pm to 5pm is always good, because it’s when people are getting home from work.
“And another time would be on weekends, that is also a really good time.”
SNAP IT UP
When it comes to the photos you upload on Vinted, Mya highlighted: “Have really in depth photos. I’m taking photos of any little tag that’s included, honestly everything – it’s painting a clearer picture for the buyer and it’s really helpful.”
What photos you should upload
High-quality and clear images will help your items stand out on Vinted amongst a vast array of items available on the platform.
Here are the five essential shots The Sun’s Rose O’Sullivan recommends:
- Picture one: A clear shot of the front of the dress, gym set, trousers, etc
- Picture two: The back of the outfit
- Picture three: Photograph sleeve or pant length
- Picture four: Close-up of the stitching, or if any flaws on the item include zoomed-in shots of this too
- Picture five: If they are trousers, take pictures of lining, zips or buckles
COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Not only are your photos important, but your communication is too, as Mya added: “Communicate with buyers when you do have them – get that five star review because five star reviews really do help.
“If I see two people listing items, one that’s cheaper with one five star review and someone with ten five star reviews, I’m probably gonna buy from them even if it’s more expensive because I know they’re more trustworthy.”
GET ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Another way to create more awareness of your Vinted items, according to Mya, is to share them on your social media platforms.
The Vinted lover expressed: “Post on TikTok. Use hashtags. It really does help.
“I posted about [an item and I had] five or six sales, it does work.”
PRICE IT UP
If that wasn’t enough, Mya explained that pricing up your items can also help to make cash, as she concluded: “Finally, another good one for people to think they’re getting a good deal would be you listing it a couple quid more than what you actually want.
“So if you want £5, list it at £6 or £7 and then people can offer you £5 and think they’re getting a deal.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @myaturner1 has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 42,200 views in just four days.
Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?
QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted...
- The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
- Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

NEW RULES TO NOTE
But if you want to flog your old items on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that recently came into play.
If people are selling personal items for less than they paid new (which is generally the case for second-hand sales), there is no impact on tax.
However, since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.
You’re unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year – generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax.
A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for business sellers trading for profit – the only time that an individual personal item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.
However, firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.
It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.
While your data won’t be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you’ll still need to pay tax as normal.
