Driver keeps parking in MY spot even though there are other spaces – I tried 95p trick to stop them but they bested me
A MOTORIST has shared his struggle with another driver parking in the spot he pays for even though there are other spaces available.
The homeowner apparently shells out around £100 every month to reserve the bay but keeps finding it blocked off when he gets home from work.
Sharing their frustrations on Reddit, they explained how they tried to battle against the parking thief, without much success.
The fuming driver said: “I have a spot I pay for.
“Every day someone new parks there.
“I pay £95 a month for this spot & the office tells me all they can do is put a notice warning them giving them 48 hours to move.”
In an attempt to prevent the theft, the social media user came up with a 95p trick to try and ward off nuisance parkers.
They got themselves a pair of orange traffic cones and placed them in the space to mark out that it was reserved.
They hoped that this would make other motorists realise that the bay was not theirs and encourage them to use one of the plentiful free spaces on the street.
However, they revealed that someone “stole both cones” before sticking their motor in the bay.
And when they bought replacement cones to try it again, those were apparently stolen too.
Now, though, the frustrated road user is planning a much more formal revenge.
They went on: “I’m about to start calling the tow company myself to see if I can go behind their back.
“I’m just so frustrated cause I just moved here like two months ago and that spot wasn’t taken and now everyone thinks they can just get a free spot.
“I got a parking spot so I would have a place to park after working all day.
They have loads of free parking but when its full people park in my spot & I just don’t get why people don’t pay for it if they want it.”
If they can prove that they are paying for the spot, then parking there could be considered trespass, allowing for the infringing car to be towed away.
Commenters suggested a few other ways to get even.
One wrote: “Start requesting they get towed.
“After everyone knows you get towed if you park there, people will stop.”
Another added: “Sounds like you should stop paying for a spot and park in any reserved spot on their property for less than 48 hours at a time.”
It comes after one homeowner was stunned by a neighbour’s request to give up her spot – even though they didn’t need it.
