‘What’s the world coming to?’ parents yell as mum buys £70 skincare bundle for daughter’s ‘leaving primary school’ gift
A MUM has sparked controversy after revealing she bought her 10-year-old daughter £70 worth of skincare as a gift for leaving primary school.
Emma predicted she’d get “a lot of hate” for the TikTok video, in which she explained that her little girl had been “heavily influenced” by what she’s seen on the Internet.
So, when it came to getting her something that she’d like to mark her moving onto secondary school, Emma knew she’d appreciate the skincare bundle from Boots.
She then went on to reveal what she’d bought – the Slam Dunk moisturiser, Daydream serum and Fresh Start cleanser from Bubble.
Emma also picked up the Byoma sensitive skin body wash and the hydrating body lotion.
“I kind of like the idea of her knowing how to look after herself, look after her skin,” she added.
“I wasn’t shown any of that as a kid, or as a young teenager, so it’s nice to know that she’s bothered about her own self-care.”
She concluded the video by asking if anyone else had spent similar amounts on their tweenagers, writing in the caption: “I spent £70 on skincare for my 11 year old.”
People were quick to comment on the video, with many on Emma’s side, as one wrote: “I spent about £150 on skincare for my daughter’s 11th birthday.”
“My girl’s the same age and loves all her Byoma skincare,” another added.
“She wants to try Bubble once the Byoma runs out.”
“It was my daughter’s 10th birthday yesterday and she got loads of skincare,” a third commented.
“I spent money on items for her that I would absolutely never spend on my own products.”
“My daughter has just turned 9 and i got her the same products for her bday,” someone else said.
“My daughter had skincare for her 8th birthday,” another wrote.
“She begged and begged me for Bubble and Byoma so she had them.
“I got told it’s ridiculous!”
What kind of skincare routine IS suitable for a child?

For kids, skincare is simple, all it needs is a gentle cleanse where I’d recommend something like Byoma Creamy Jelly Cleanser, £9.99, and a soft flannel, muslin cloth or sponge is handy for that hard-to-budge dried ketchup.
If your child is experimenting with make-up, then a micellar water like Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, £2.50, is the quickest and easiest way to remove colour cosmetics.
Then a PH balanced, fragrance free moisturiser like CeraVe Moisturising Cream, £5, is a nice part of a bed-time routine and can often help them wind down as well as help keep their skin hydrated.
If your child suffers from eczema or dry skin, CeraVe is a great brand to use, as is Aveeno. They’re both gentle and nourishing, so won’t dry out skin or cause irritation, but stick to a moisturiser and cleanser to avoid overcomplicating things.
An SPF is great, especially during the summer, and Garnier Ambre Solaire Ultra-Light Sensitive Face Fluid SPF50+, £12, will work for the full family as it’s not greasy and sits well under make-up.

With Emma replying: “It’s beneficial to know how to take care of herself.
“Especially when she’s getting spots etc.”
