Tackle hair thinning with my 3 styling tips – you can disguise bald patches, a quick swap adds extra cover & gives lift
THINNING tresses can be disguised with clever styling that doesn’t put tension on strands, according to a hair expert.
She shared three must-try tips for creating the illusion of thicker tresses.
Nicole Petty shared her expert tips for disguising bald patches and styling thinning hair[/caption]Nicole Petty is an expert at hair extension company Milk + Blush, which counts Karlie Kloss, Kim Kardashian, and her younger sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner among their clients.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared advice for how to style thinning hair.
PERFECT PART
Petty said hair usually begins to thin at the top of your head, at the crown where you part your hair, or at the sides near your temples.
“To tackle thinning, consider switching up where you part your hair,” she said.
“If you usually wear it in the middle but find it thinning at the front and center, swap to a side part by sweeping the hair from one side to the other.
“Or if you’re a side-part girl with thinning around one side, try a center part.”
She said swapping your part and moving your hair in a different direction can provide “extra cover” to thinning areas and hide bald patches.
She added that this can give locks a “little lift” as the hair adjusts to laying in that direction.
PAINLESS PONYTAIL
Petty advised against relying on the same old hairstyles while waiting for thinning hair to grow back.
She revealed alternatives to classic styles such as tight buns and high ponytails that put tension on locks.
“A low ponytail is a great hairstyle that alleviates any strain on your locks and allows the hair to fall naturally,” she said.
“Simply pull your hair back into a ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure it with a silk scrunchie or spiral hair bobble.
“If you want it to look fuller, consider adding a clip-in ponytail.”
CURLY CAMOUFLAGE
Petty said a blow dry or curls each morning is a great way to “add volume and camouflage” sparse-looking hair.
She revealed thinning tresses can also appear thicker by wearing lengthening hair extensions.
“Before committing to a set, consider what type of extension you are going for,” she said.
Adding a blow dry or curls to your locks in the morning can be a great way to add volume, camouflage any thinning and make your hair look thicker.

“For example, clip-in hair extensions are the best option for a quick fix, as they are easy to maintain, clean, and take off.
“Tape extensions are a more permanent yet natural-looking low-maintenance option.”
Petty previously shared with The U.S. Sun little-known home remedies for stimulating hair growth.
She recommended leaving rosemary sprigs and olive oil in a jar to rest for a few hours before massaging it into the scalp.
She said its “high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties” can help to cleanse hair and promote growth.
Petty added that ginger is a great solution for preventing dandruff and scalp irritation.
She suggested grating the ingredient and pressing the juice from it, before mixing it with coconut oil.
She said the 2-ingredient mask should be massaged into the scalp for three minutes and then left to sit for 20 minutes before washing out.
