Two killed in inferno at ‘House of Horrors’ escape room after being cuffed & taunted with chainsaws in game gone wrong
TWO women were killed in a horror blaze inside a locked escape room after staff accidentally set a petrol can on fire in a chilling game gone wrong.
The two friends took part in the game in Makhachkala, Dagestan in Russia, before they died between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Dental assistant Asiyat , 19, and personal trainer Madina, 25, went to a House of Horrors quest room.
Newlywed Asiyat, who had gotten married just five days before the tragedy unfolded, convinced her husband Said, 21, to take her.
She was strapped to a chair in the dungeon as part of the gruesome game which involved chainsaws, while her friend Madina was handcuffed as part of the routine.
Russian magazine Holod reported that an employee doused his glove in petrol and set it on fire to “increase the feeling of fear” for the customers.
He then waved the chainsaw in front of Asiyat and dropped the can, where the petrol supplies were placed, setting the entire room ablaze.
Neither of the two women could escape the inferno as they were locked inside the dark horror chamber where staff at the attraction struggled to locate keys to unlock them.
But people sat in a cafe next door saw smoke and immediately called the fire brigade who effectively smashed their way in.
Both women were alive when rescuers found them but Asiyat, who broke free, suffered fatal poisoning trying to help Madina escape.
Asiyat died from inhaling carbon monoxide and Madina died from burns covering 97% of her body.
Holod said they died at some point between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Asiyat’s husband Said, 21, is still in hospital fighting for his life with 50 per cent burns, unaware his new bride is dead.
Asiyat, who is the daughter of the chief doctor at the city’s main hospital was pronounced dead in the hospital, like her friend Madina.
A witness said: “To scare the girl, they first handcuffed her, chained her to a chair, and then poured lighter on her and wanted to simulate arson, to scare her.
“They struck a lighter and the girl burst into flames. Her friend tried to put it out, and a man tried to find fire extinguishers.
“When he returned, both women were unconscious. One burned on a chair.”
A family source said: “My sister Asiyat got married last week. She asked her husband to go on this quest.
“During the quest, the animator handcuffed 25-year-old Madina. He was going to do a trick, doused her with fuel and struck her with a lighter to scare her, and the fire broke out.
“Madina started to burn. Asiyat’s husband took off his T-shirt and tried to put it out, but it didn’t work.
“He ran out to find a fire extinguisher, it was difficult to get out, it was dark there and there were labyrinths everywhere.
“He tried to break the bars on the window, but he couldn’t….He looked for the women with his hands and tripped over Asiyat, trying to save her friend.”
Russian police have opened up an investigation on the basis of “providing services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers, resulting in the death of two people”.
They say that perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison.
