Tourist dies after collapsing on Virgin flight as crew desperately tried to save her in front of horrified passengers
A TRAVELLER has died in a mid-air tragedy after she collapsed on a Virgin Australia flight.
Flight crew rushed to perform CPR in a desperate bid to save the woman with the plane given priority landing in Melbourne.
She was taken off the aircraft with emergency services waiting on the tarmac but she couldn’t be saved.
She collapsed on the flight about 9:30am Monday before the jet came in for landing at Tullamarine Airport about 10:15am.
Authorities are not treating the death as suspicious.
The tragedy occurred on a Brisbane-Melbourne flight.
A Virgin Australia spokesperson told News Corp Australia’s NewsWire: “Virgin Australia can confirm a medical emergency on board flight VA308 travelling from Brisbane to Melbourne this morning.”
Victoria Police are now preparing a report for the coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding the mid-flight horror.
The woman’s identity remains unclear.
The travel tragedy comes two months after Brit granddad Geoff Kitchen died on a Singapore Airlines flight when it was hit by turbulence.
The long London-Singapore journey was only two hours from landing when “severe turbulence” rocked passengers with the plane descending 7,000ft in just six minutes.
