According to the commenter, a simple buy can prevent this issue and also works to keep your room cool.
“Buy some Aluminet and hang it over the window,” the Facebook user suggested.
She explained that the window covering is renter-friendly, describing it as “easy to put up and down.”
While she added that the item “isn’t cheap,” an affordable version of the shade cloth is available on Temu for £11.04.
The durable mesh reflective covering offers UV protection and comes with an installation rope.
“It is used to put over crates for dog shows to stop them getting hot,” the commenter explained.
As well as using it on her windows and dog crates, the Facebook user took the covering on the go.
“I also use in my car plus over a tent to keep it cool,” she revealed.
“It works. It makes a difference. Great stuff.”
The US Department of Energy shared the benefits of using window coverings in your home.
“About 76% of sunlight that falls on standard double-pane windows enters to become heat,” the experts explained.
They recommended using window coverings to regulate the temperature in your space.
More tips for keeping cool
With temperatures continuing to soar this week, check out some handy hacks for keeping cool in the hot weather.
- Close all south-facing windows and draw the blinds while opening north-facing windows to let in fresh air.
- Create a cave-like environment in your bedroom and practice “sleep divorce.”
- Open all your windows during the night to increase air circulation.
- Fill a hot water bottle with water and place in the fridge for 1-2 hours before going to bed.
- Keep a pair of clean socks in your freezer and put them on before bed.
As well as keeping your home at a comfortable temperature and preventing your pets from touching heated glass, coverings can also help protect your interiors.
The energy professionals explained that the covering can help protect “artwork, furniture, or carpeting [which] could be faded by UV exposure.”
They added that the coverings can also be used to reduce your energy bills during the winter.
“About 30% of a home’s heating energy is lost through windows,” the experts said.
They recommended using window coverings as an extra form on insulation in colder weather.
