Brit beautician, 33, left fighting for life after being crushed by lorry in horror scooter crash in Bali
A BRIT beautician has been fighting for her life after being crushed by a lorry in a horror accident in Bali.
Charlene Morrissey, from Airdrie, Lanarkshire, was knocked off her scooter after colliding with a car – and was then run over by a truck.
She was rushed to hospital where doctors had to perform several life-saving surgeries as well as blood transfusions.
They confirmed Charlene suffered serious arm injuries – and would need extensive treatment despite undergoing a huge skin graft.
The Scots woman, who describes herself as a “transformational coach” online now remains in a critical condition.
The 33-year-old had been living on the paradise island for the last six months while working remotely before the horror crash took place.
Doctors now hope to save her arm through a pedicle flap surgery, an operation in which the hand is stitched to the abdomen to allow skin to grow.
However, the hospital stopped her treatment after learning Charlene’s travel insurance would not cover the medical bills.
Her family, who flew out to Indonesia earlier this month, have since forked out a whopping £50,000 bill for the surgeries.
One pal, who has been supporting the family during this harrowing time, said: “Charlene’s mum and sister jumped on the first flight they could to be with her.
“The hospital refused to do the surgery she needed until we paid the £50,000 bill, which we had to raise urgently.
“The costs are rising daily, and we’re doing everything we can. The embassy has provided advice, but they can’t offer financial support.”
Her family is now determined to get her back to the UK before undergoing further medical treatment.
Charlene’s pals have set up a GoFundMe page to support her treatments – and have been able to raise £100,000 already.
One close friend told the Scottish Sun: “We are so grateful for everyone who has donated. The response has been completely overwhelming.
“Charlene is a very well-loved person and this just proves that. We’ve had people from all over sending messages, wanting to help. It kind of restores your faith in humanity.”
Charlene remains heavily sedated and in a lot of pain, according to her worried relatives who flew out to be at her bedside.
But it is understood she has at least three surgeries to go before she can be deemed fit to fly.
Her worried pal added: “It is a much longer flight though, so she would need to be medically escorted. She will need a team of highly trained nurses and doctors to fly with her.”
