‘It has me hooked’ Nintendo Switch fans cry as popular Pokémon game goes free-to-play
NINTENDO Switch is the modern console that’s the best value for money, as not only is the console cheap but it has one of the best subscription services.
Owners can pay as little as £17.99/$19.99 a year at the cheaper tier of Nintendo Switch Online, which is the same price as one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The Mystery Dungeon series is one of Pokémon’s best spin offs[/caption]The more expensive Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier is still only £34.99/$49.99 for the year, and gives players access to almost 250 free games.
Offering subscribers even more value, Nintendo only ever adds games to Nintendo Switch Online and never removes them, unlike Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus.
On August 9 Nintendo will be adding one of the most popular Pokémon games to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass.
From the Game Boy Advance library, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will join Nintendo’s higher subscription tier next week.
This is the first game in the Mystery Dungeon series, which is one of the most popular spin-offs of the Pokémon franchise.
Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Snap have their fans, but few Pokémon spin-off series have had as many entries and love from fans as the Mystery Dungeon games.
As the first entry in the series, Red Rescue Team is the first game that many people played, so it holds a special place for them.
Unlike the mainline Pokémon games, Mystery Dungeon is a dungeon crawler where you play as a Pokémon rather than a trainer.
You and a partner Pokémon will enter challenging dungeons with multiple floors with the chance to recruit other Pokémon along the way.
Adding an extra level of difficulty to the game, you cannot evolve any of these Pokémon until after you beat the main game.
As you start as a rather weak Pokémon like Skitty, Cubone or Meowth, this means it can be particularly challenging.
While it may seem useless to evolve your Pokémon after you’ve finished the game, Red Rescue Team has a very robust post-game, which is far longer than the main story.
The highlight of the post-game is Purity Forest, a 99-level dungeon where you can use any Pokémon you’ve recruited, but you have to start at level 1.
If you want to try out Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team you will first need to be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
You then need to download the Game Boy Advance app from the Nintendo eShop, and you can select the game you want to play from there.
