Newcastle set to make move for ANOTHER keeper despite having five on books and signing two already this summer
JAMES TRAFFORD could be a step nearer moving to Newcastle United after fellow stopper Etienne Green joined Burnley from Saint-Etienne.
The Toon have already failed in a £16million bid for the Three Lions prospect who was the hero of England‘s under-21 European Championship triumph in 2023.
Newcastle are keen on signing James Trafford[/caption] Nick Pope is the club’s no.1 choice[/caption]But the arrival of Green, 24, also a former Young Lion, is expected to signal another approach from St. James’ Park.
Green, born in Colchester, moved to France as a four-year-old and came through the Saint-Etienne ranks before making 35 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.
The Clarets are also awaiting a firm bid for Trafford’s team-mate Sander Berge after the Norwegian midfielder, 26, emerged as a shock target of Manchester United.
They want around £30m for Berge and the same amount for Trafford.
He made Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for this summer’s Euros and is also being tracked by Chelsea.
Green, who won two under-21 caps, declared: “It feels great to be here.
“I can’t wait to meet the team and get training and playing with them.
“I have always wanted to play for an English club, so to be here at a club like Burnley with the rich history is amazing.

“I’m excited, and it really is a dream come true.”
Trafford’s potential arrival at St James’ Park means that Howe’s side is swollen with goalkeepers.
The club had already signed Odysseas Vlachodimos in a £20m transfer from Nottingham Forest.
John Ruddy has also arrived on a free transfer following his release from Birmingham CIty after the club was relegated to League One.
The pair have joined Nick Pope, Mark Gillespie and Martin Dubravka to compete in the goalkeeping department.
