SPLURGING on fancy haircare products isn’t worth your cash, according to one happy drugstore shopper.
She said her stringy, lifeless locks totally turned around when she started using an $8 shampoo and conditioner set — and the right techniques.
It’s certainly an endless subject for debate: does “expensive” actually mean “better”?
One Redditor is pretty insistent that it definitely doesn’t.
“While using expensive/sulfate/silicone-free products, my hair just felt stringy, weighed down, and lifeless, regardless of technique,” wrote Kekejenn.
“I was desperate for a solution, so I kept trying and trying these products to no avail.”
Then she swapped out her pricey system for a shampoo and conditioner duo that’s a total bargain, all thanks to a YouTuber’s recommendation.

She insisted the difference was night and day.
“My hair did a full 180 after I started using drugstore products again,” she said.
“I simply used the wrong technique when using cheap products, so I thought that the products were bad, not the method.”
Influencers had also convinced her that sulfates and silicones were bad for her hair, but now she doesn’t think that’s the case.

Still, she warned, just because her routine works for her doesn’t mean it’ll be perfect for everyone.
“Keep in mind that everyone has different hair, so what worked for me might not work for you,” she advised.
Her locks are “really thick” with fine strands, so she thinks anyone with a similar mane makeup should try out her go-to products.
“Even if you don’t have hair like mine, there’s so many drugstore sets that work for all kinds of hair types, so I suggest Abbey Yung’s channel if you want more recommendations,” she concluded.
