Fans ask ‘what is this?’ as Sky Sports release bizarre new video of what ref actually sees before Premier League game
INCREDIBLE new footage has revealed what a referee sees before the start of a Premier League game.
Jarred Gillett got mic’d up and wore a camera to give fans a glimpse of life as an official.
Fans were given a glimpse of the ref’s view before a game[/caption] Referee Jarred Gillett told Joachim Andersen to lead by example[/caption] The ref checked the goalkeepers were ready before the start of the game[/caption] Palace beat Man Utd 4-0[/caption]The Aussie ref was wired up for Crystal Palace’s 4-0 demolition of Manchester United last season.
And in the never-before seen clip released by Sky Sports, Gillett shows how he got the game underway.
He first lines up to shake hands with all the players as he wished “all the best” to the likes of Will Hughes, Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund.
Captains Joachim Andersen and Casemiro then approach him in the centre of the pitch for the coin toss.
But before deciding on kick-off, Gillett surprisingly laid down the law to both skippers.
He said: “Right lads, you’re the captains, I expect you to lead by example and manage the players if you can.”
The 37-year-old then gave Man Utd the option of “red or silver” for the coin toss, with Palace choosing to kick-off.
Gillett then made sure his linesmen and both goalkeepers were ready before blowing his first whistle to start the game.

Fans were shocked by his pre-match speech, with one saying: “What is this?”
Another added: “All these years wondering what the conversation might be.”
More reacted: “Being an official seems to be the hardest job in the world ngl.”
RefCam also caught footage of Michael Olise skinning Casemiro with a clever turn as fans laughed it “looks like the way actors tackle in movies”.
What we know about the 'new' Old Trafford
MANCHESTER UNITED plan to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.
The decision was made after a number of fact-finding missions to other stadiums including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp.
The cost of the project is expected to be a staggering £2billion.
A capacity of 100,000 is expected.
It is felt that a club of United’s standing should have a new state-of-the-art facility.
The new stadium will be built on land adjacent to the Red Devils’ current home.
United are looking to not only build a stadium but regenerate the area of Trafford where the ground will stand.
They plan to KEEP Old Trafford rather than demolish it, and use it as a second venue.
They will scale it down to a 30,000-seater that can then be used for the women’s team and academy matches.
That would mean the history remains with statues and the Munich clock and memorial plaque all most likely staying in their current positions.
The club consulted with 30,000 fans about what to do and believe there is roughly a 50-50 split on staying or moving.
Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910.
The target is for completion by 2030.
