I’m 57, single and love being naked – I even do yoga in the buff, it’s so liberating

Karie Jane, a divorcee and former theatre producer from Derbyshire, claimed that she even does yoga in the buff too, as she finds it incredibly liberating.

The blonde-haired woman has been a naturist for more than 20 years and made a permanent move to Fuerteventura in 2013 following her divorce.
In 2019, she transformed her holiday home into the BHH Naturist Resort in Costa Calma, a retreat with five apartments, and since then “fell in love” with herself through naturism.
Since opening, her business has flourished, with highlights including a naked yoga session featuring on Channel 5’s The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald.
Karie takes pride in creating a safe environment at her resort, carefully vetting single male guests, and loves witnessing how her guests, including breast cancer survivors, gain confidence during their stay.
Her family, including her parents who are in their late 70s, have visited, embracing the nudist lifestyle.
But she finds dating as a naturist difficult as she told PA Real Life: “Since running the naturist resort, I would say that I fell in love with myself through naturism, it’s very liberating.
“I think it’s tricky the whole dating scenario for me because of the type of business I run, because potential partners tend to get the wrong idea unless they are naturists themselves.
“So I’m very happy being single… but maybe someone should create a naturist dating app!”
In 2000, Karie visited her first naturist beach while on holiday in Spain, and from then on, continued going on holiday in the nude.
She even bought a holiday home in Fuerteventura, made up of five apartments, with her then-husband in 2001 to embrace the naturist lifestyle more often.
But when Karie and her husband divorced in 2013, she decided to move to Fuerteventura permanently for a fresh start.
For a few years, she rented out parts of her property to families and surfers, but in 2019, she made “the big decision to offer naturist holidays” to adults.
Her ex-husband, who she is still friends with, was also very supportive of her decision.

Since opening, her business has been booming – and in January 2024, she featured on Channel 5’s The Canary Islands with Jane Mcdonald, where Jane visited her resort to see Karie and guests taking part in a naked yoga retreat.
Karie said: “It came across so well and I was so happy!
“I practise yoga regularly anyway and it’s a lovely thing to do naked or not – but I get a bit hot so naked is ideal!
“I was just so proud and so pleased to be on the show.”
She has also been running a ladies’ retreat, where fellow female naturists can come and stay, make friends, and embrace the naturist lifestyle.
What is Naturism?
Naturism, also known as nudism, is a cultural and lifestyle movement that advocates for and practices social nudity in both private and public spaces.
The philosophy behind naturism emphasises harmony with nature, self-respect, respect for others, and a sense of community.
Naturism is a diverse and inclusive lifestyle choice that encourages individuals to embrace their natural state, foster a deeper connection with nature, and build a community based on mutual respect and equality.
Naturists believe that naturism promotes a healthy and accepting attitude toward the human body, regardless of shape, size, or imperfections.
Many naturists are also advocates for environmental conservation and sustainable living, believing in a close connection with nature.
Naturism also fosters a sense of equality, as clothing often signifies social status, and its absence can help break down these barriers.
Day-to-day Karie is in the buff and “joins in with guests” for barbecues or evening drinks.
She has also hosted breast cancer survivors and is very proud to see them be comfortable showing their scars.
She added: “I have a lot of first-time naturists and so maybe on the first day or two, particularly the ladies, would just go topless.
“And then by the end of the week, they’re fully embracing the whole lifestyle.
“I feel quite proud that they feel safe and they trust the other guests to be able to remove all their clothes in front of them – naturists are the friendliest community on the planet, we’re very caring and supportive of one another.”
Since running the business she has had “lots of fantastic memories” with guests, as most of them return “time and time again”.
There’s lots of misconceptions, especially from men
Karie Jane
She continued: “Now some of them are more like friends – a naturist is a friend without the wrapper!
“I’ve met up with them in the UK and we keep in touch.”
Her loved ones are “very proud” of her business and her parents “love it”, as she explained: “They love it and they were very impressed with the swimming pool and the facilities and how I’ve developed the business.”
However, she is often faced with inappropriate comments when she tells people about the business, as she revealed: “There’s lots of misconceptions, especially from men who only get naked to have a shower or to have sex.
“They immediately think that naturism is about sexual endeavours, rather than non-sexual social nudity which is what I’m offering.”
To people considering naturism, Karie said: “I would say to anyone, just dip your toe in and if you don’t like it, then at least you’ve had the experience.
“But most people think that it’s the best kind of holiday ever because you don’t have wet bathing costumes!
“Everybody is equal – they’re not wearing clothes where you can distinguish if someone’s wearing expensive brands, which is very very liberating.”
