Chelsea legend Gullit becomes ‘instant meme’ as video of him staring at wine drinker who shakes waiter’s hand goes viral

CHELSEA legend Ruud Gullit has become an “instant meme” after staring at a pretentious wine drinker in an online video.

The Dutch icon had a brilliant look on his face as he watched the diner select a bottle while having a meal at a restaurant.

Ruud Gullit delighted the internet as he appeared in the background of a pretentious wine-tasting video
The Chelsea legend had a hilarious look on his face as he watched the bizarre proceedings

The man went through the various stages of the wine drinking process, starting with a close inspection of the bottle.

He then signalled for the waiter to pour some into a large glass before sipping on water to cleanse his palate.

The man then tilted the glass of wine while holding it up to the light.

And after the wine passed its first inspection, the man then gave it a deep sniff before putting the glass to his lips.

He then swirled the liquid around his mouth before swallowing and giving a contented sigh.

The apparent expert then shook the hand of the waiter who had been standing to one side the entire time.

But sitting in the background the entire time was none other than Gullit.

The Chelsea hero spent the whole clip staring at the drinker with a bemused look on his face.

And the pretentiousness of the situation, as well as Gullit’s brilliant expression, sparked a flurry of online comments.

One said: “Ruud Gullit is all of us. This will be a meme for some time.”

Where will they get changed? Jamie Carragher's huge Chelsea rant

PREMIER LEAGUE legend Jamie Carragher let rip at Chelsea's transfer market activity, going on an epic rant about the west Londoners…

He told Sky Sports: “Chelsea have just got to stop buying players and players have got to stop signing for Chelsea.

“If I was a player and look at Chelsea, why would you sign?

“The only reason you’d sign is because someone might say – your agent might say – ‘We’re getting a seven-year deal’.

“You know what I’d say? ‘Back yourself as a player, sign a four-year deal at a proper club and back yourself to do well’.

“And then when you’re due for renewal your money goes up anyway.

“I don’t understand why you’d sign a seven-year deal. Back yourself.”

He continued: “All players need competition. But every team I played in there were seven or eight players who knew they were playing every week.

“Then you’ve got six or seven players who are fighting for three positions, and then you’ve got another six players who know they are squad players.”

And of the Blues’ swollen array of talent, Carragher asked: “Where are they going to fit in the changing room?

“How are you going to put on a training session.”

Another declared: “Shakes the waiter’s hand, like he himself created the wine.”

One noted: “Gullit with an absolute all timer.”

Another added: “Ruud is obviously a whiskey drinker.”

Gullit is regarded as one of the greatest players in modern times thanks to his ability to play in a variety of positions.

He first made his name in Dutch football with Haarlem before becoming a national star at Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.

After capturing three league titles across both clubs, he then bagged a then-world record £7.5million move to AC Milan in 1987.

Gullit was one of the team’s star names despite sharing the stage with other legends like Marco van Basten, Franco Baresi, Frank Rijkaard and Paolo Maldini.

And in his first season he won the Ballon d’Or, as well as the Serie A title.

During his six-and-a-half years at the San Siro, Gullit won another two titles — as well as successive European Cups in 1989 and 1990.

And it was in this time the 66-time Dutch international won Euro 88.

After scoring 56 goals in 171 games, he joined fellow Italians Sampdoria in 1993 before winning the Italian Cup.

Gullit then moved to England with Chelsea in 1995 and scored seven goals in 63 games.

A year later he became player-manager of the Blues and led them to FA Cup glory in 1997.

But Gullit was sacked in 1998, which also spelled the end of his playing career, and was replaced by the late Gianluca Vialli — one of his major signings.

Gullit took charge of Newcastle later that year but only last 52 matches after picking up just 18 wins.

He returned to management in 2004 with Feyenoord and only lasted a year there too.

In 2007 he had a brief stint in the MLS with LA Galaxy.

And his last job came in 2011 as manager of Russian side Terek Grozny.

Gullit has since worked as a TV pundit for various channels including ITV, Sky Sports and BeIN Sports.
