It’s spider season but my 90p hack will keep them out of your home – parents probably already have what you need too

IT’S spider infestation season, which is bad news if you’re arachnophobic.

But there’s a 90p hack that people are swearing by to keep the creepy crawlies out of their houses, and it works a treat – even on the biggest of the pests.

Not only that, but if you’re a parent, you probably already have some of it in your craft cupboard.

The answer is chalk!

Apparently, as spiders taste with their feet, putting chalk around your windows and doors could stop them getting in, as they dislike both the texture and scent of chalk.

You can even draw a chalk line around your bed if you’re particularly worried about spiders getting in.

Chalk also stops ants from getting in too – so it’s definitely one worth trying.

And you’ve got a few weeks to give it a go too, as spider mating season is from mid-August until early October.

Another hack to give a try is to use a lemon.

According to Expert Home Tips, you will simply need to rub citrus peel over your windowsills, bookshelves, and anywhere else you tend to find spiders.

Not only is this thought to keep the crawlies away, the purse-friendly remedy will also make your home smell fabulous and clean – a win-win.

The 30p fruit can also be a great way to banish spiders out of basements and garages as following the same method should theoretically have the same outcome.

You can also take advantage of strong-smelling plants to plant around your garden, as spiders hate peppermint, lavender, basil, and citronella.

If you’ve got a log fire in your house, you need to be careful about where you store your wood.

Spiders are attracted to the wood because they use it for shelter, and often build webs and lay eggs in it. 

Firewood also attracts other insects which provide spiders with a food source. 

So make sure you store your firewood in a place where you want to avoid running into any creepy crawlies.
