I live in a 40ft shipping container I transformed for £8k – my bathroom’s as big as my mum’s & she lives in a house
A TINY home resident gave her followers a tour of the shipping container she converted into her house.
She showed off various features in the budget-friendly home, including her spacious bathroom.
In her viral video, TikTok user Paige Mills (@bikerbiddie) showed off the house she built for less than £8,000.
The Australian poster revealed that the space was created from a 40 foot shipping container.
Paige explained that she spent a total of £15,000 on the conversion after purchasing the container.
“[I] scavenged some stuff cheap off [Facebook] marketplace but [I] also splurged on some stuff,” she said.
She was also able to fit the unit with plumbing, building a fully-functioning bathroom and kitchen.
Paige pointed out that her bathroom was the same size as her mum’s one in her townhouse.
She added large glass patio doors that allowed lots of natural light into the unit.
Paige also cut a large circular window at the end of the container, where she placed her bed.
She described the circular window as one of her “biggest financial splurges.”
The TikToker created an outdoor space by building a small patio deck from recycled materials
Paige also constructed her own bedframe, allowing for extra storage in the small space.
She explained that she rents the land on which she placed the shipping container.
The fitness fanatic also runs a gym from a container in an industrial park.
She revealed that she eventually plans to flip the tiny home and designed it to be easily shipped on a lorry.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the home transformation in the comments section.
Rules for moving into a shipping container
UK-based company Gap Containers shared the rules to follow when converting a shipping container. You need to:
- Apply for planning permission before getting started.
- Permanent structures may need to be blended into the surroundings in certain regions.
- Consider if your structure will impede the privacy of your neighbours.
- If the container will cover more than half of the land surrounding your property, be taller than the closest property or be connected to permanent utility supplies, local authority approval will probably be required.
“Oh wow!! That’s awesome. A much less fancy version of this would be my absolute dream,” wrote one impressed viewer.
“I really want to do this some day. I don’t want a mortgage for house and land, just land to build my own thing on it,” said another follower.
“The TV being able to swing out to face either way is a brilliant idea,” pointed out one person.
“You’re absolutely amazing girl. Well done. Looks phenomenal,” wrote another TikTok user.
“Amazing, I would 100% buy one if I could,” commented one viewer.
