England newbie Angel Gomes’ former club handed transfer ban for FOURTH window running after 30 Fifa charges
PORTUGUESE side Boavista have been handed a transfer ban for the FOURTH consecutive window.
The Panthers are currently unable to register any new players.
They also have 30 suspensions at Fifa due to debts to third parties.
A statement from club president Fary Faye on the situation read: “I am writing to inform you all that, despite the enormous effort and intense negotiations carried out over the last three and a half months, it will not be possible to conclude the process relating to FIFA Transfer Bans before the close of this transfer market.
“From the very beginning, the new Board of Directors (CA) of Boavista FC, Futebol SAD has worked tirelessly, together with all parties involved, in an attempt to regularise this situation, as happened, in fact, with the licensing process in the Liga Portugal and with the resolution of national impediments.
“It is important to note that, during this period, the CA explored all legal and financial avenues in an attempt to ensure that Boavista could face the current season without this limitation that has affected us so much for three transfer markets.
“We had a clear and well-structured plan, which included the transaction of the economic rights of some players, in an operation that would serve to financially leverage the SAD and resolve FIFA’s Transfer Bans.
“However, this CA was surprised, on August 1st, with yet another unexpected situation: Sociedade BTL, holder of a credit over the Club, for which the SAD is jointly and severally liable, obtained authorisation from the Porto Judicial Court to execute the debt in question through the economic rights of the players transferred in this transfer window.
“Despite all the effort, it was not possible to overcome this obstacle in a timely manner, and this is one of the many examples of unexpected problems that the new CA has encountered in its still short period of activity.
“Even before becoming aware of this situation, CA moved forward with the signing of two players, based on the strong conviction that it would resolve FIFA’s Transfer Bans, and also opted to trade, within the initially drawn up plan, the economic rights of athletes Pedro Malheiro (23 July) and Chidozie Awaziem (25 July), operations which, it should be noted, also made it possible to resolve national impediments and ensure the renewal of the registrations of players who were already part of the SAD’s staff.”

Gomes was handed his first senior England call-up this week[/caption]The statement went on to reveal that Boavista are exploring alternative solutions in a bid to avoid relegation from the Primeira Liga.
Former Manchester United academy star Angel Gomes spent a season on loan at Boavista during the 2020-21 campaign.
He made 32 appearances for the Portuguese side and scored six goals.
Gomes was handed his first senior England call-up this week.
He was named in Lee Carsley‘s Three Lions squad for upcoming fixtures against Ireland and Finland.
Discussing Gomes’ inclusion, the interim manager said: “Angel is someone who does it week-in, week-out for a team out in France. He is a player that, along with four or five others in the team in central midfield, is capable of doing that.
“I’m not sure why he’s not been included previously. I wouldn’t know. I know that the senior staff have watched him and how impressed they were with him from the summer he had with us.
“He’s a player that we’re probably not used to seeing in terms of that kind of player. But yet when we watched a Portugal team or a Spain team: ‘Ah, I really like that No.10. I really like him.’ We’ve got players like that within our pathway that need a chance.
“Angel has had to go to another country to get that. He was such a talent, they had such high hopes for him at Manchester United. He’s just had to find a different route to get to where he is. I expect him to go from strength to strength.”
Gomes, who currently stars for Lille in Ligue 1, has not played since he suffered a horrific head injury against Reims two weeks ago.
