Bargain supermarket is giving customers £100 of shopping for FREE during the Paralympics – how to get yours
ONE bargain supermarket is giving shoppers £100 for free if they’re in store when a gold medal is won at the Paralympics.
The retail giant is an official sponsor of ParalympicsGB and is reimbursing people who miss the team’s winning moments.
Britain has already won 21 gold medals at the time of writing, with 10 coming from swimming and five more from cycling.
Aldi is reimbursing shoppers with the free cash if they miss a win – which could cover their spending bill in store.
Shoppers who miss a gold medal moment should send a photo of their receipt to aldicompetitions@citypress.co.uk.
Aldi will then reimburse the the first 10 entrants with Aldi shopping vouchers worth £100.
But, there is one catch – the time on the receipt needs to be during the same minute that a ParalympicsGB athlete wins a gold medal according to the BBC Live Blog.
Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK said: “The Paralympic games have finally arrived and now it is time to see ParalympicsGB go for gold.
“Just like we did for the Olympics, we’ll be reimbursing shoppers who miss ParalympicsGB win gold as a small consolation for not being able to celebrate in the moment.
“Shoppers jumped at the chance to get their money back last time around and with over 200 more medal events at the Paralympics than the Olympics, even more people have the chance to win– perhaps putting the money towards a watch party for the next event so they can cheer on ParalympicsGB!”
Aldi has also revealed a brand new version of its Kevin The Carrot toy in time for the event.
Kevin has had a sporty makeover, and will appear on the supermarket shelves sporting a blue Union Jack headband.
Fans of Kevin can pick up the new toy for just £3.99.
The return of Kevin The Carrot comes as Aldi launches a Sports Bursary with Team GB and ParalympicsGB to provide funding and coaching to schools, local teams and clubs.
Ten sports groups will be selected by Aldi and Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes to receive the bursary.
The price includes a “money can’t buy” coaching session at their club, led by the athletes to inspire the next generation of Olympians.
The winning groups will also receive £1500 to buy sporting equipment and facilities and vouchers for Aldi.
Team GB has started the event off successfully winning big events and dozens of medals.
Nineteen-year-old Poppy Maskill set a world record and claimed the first gold in Paris by winning the women’s 100m butterfly S14 in a time of 1:03.00.

WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy.
For reduced items – when shops open
Red sticker items are rare at Aldi’s 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says that none of its food goes to waste so there are some to be found – if you’re quick.
A spokesman for the supermarket said: “All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates.”
That means you have the best chance of finding reduced food items if you go into stores as soon as it opens.
Opening times vary by shop but a majority open from 7am or 8am. You can find your nearest store’s times by using the supermarket’s online shop finder tool.
For Specialbuys – Thursdays and Sundays
Specialbuys are Aldi’s weekly collection of items that it doesn’t normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools.
New stock comes into stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally, these are the best days to visit for the best one-off special deals.
For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head there for your local store’s opening time.
You don’t have to head into stores to bag a Specialbuy, though.
They also go on sale online, usually at midnight on Thursday and Sunday, and you can pre-order them up to a week in advance.
As long as you spend at least £25, you’ll get the items delivered for free.
Remember: once they’re gone, they’re gone, so if there’s something you really want, visit as early as possible.
