Tearful Luke Littler consoled by announcer and Peter Wright after German Darts final loss as fans take aim at PDC
LUKE LITTLER was left in tears after his German Darts Championship loss.
The 17 year-old was beaten by Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright 8-5 in a sensational final.
But, it was an emotional time for the teenager who revealed a friend’s dad has passed away.
In his post-match interview, Littler said: “I have got to give a massive shout out to my friend Ellis. He lost his dad. I’ve known him since I was three or four.”
Littler was then led away in tears and stood with his face to the back of the stage leaving Wright in genuine concern for the teenager.
Later, Littler would address the situation on Instagram.
He shared a photo with Ellis on his stories, and spoke about why he was so upset.
He wrote: “Not looking for sympathy or anything I was just trying to say how my best mate has lost his dad at such a young age, I’ve known Ellis since we both was 3,4 and it’s been on my mind all week the strongest lad I know and just couldn’t get the job done as I would of liked.”
Fans on X were not happy with how Littler was treated, and took aim at the PDC.
One opined: “Was hard to watch and see Luke Littler break down on stage crying about his friends dad passing. Big shoutout for Peter Wright for looking after him.”
A second wrote: “#lukelittler seeing him break down over his friends dad is actually so sad.”
A third shared: “rlly poor from the PDC presenters there leaving like littler on his own crying about his mate losing his dad and pulling Peter wright away from him to ask him more questions. ugly stuff.”
There were tears all round at the German Darts Championship – with Peter Wright also getting emotional earlier in the night after defeating Michael Van Gerwen.
During his post-match interview, fans began chanting his name as he stood on stage.
Wright was taken aback by the singing, before the host said: “It kind of feels like Snakebite is on his way back?”
Choking back tears, an emotional Wright said: “I’m on the way back.”
