The actress could be seen back in her leather attire as she pretended to drive a tuck tuck.
In one shot James was snapped giving Ruth, 57, advice in between takes.
The new pictures come after Gavin and Stacey fans went wild following a major update this week.
James had posted a snap of his alter ego’s business vehicle which has an advertisement in the window, reading: “Smithy’s – If your husband won’t do it – I will”.
James tagged the picture: “Day 1. Here we go. x”.
Ruth also posted on Instagram as she reunited with her co-star Rob Brydon, who plays Bryn Wes.
Gavin and Stacey was last on air in 2019 as fans were left with a cliffhanger.
They watched as James’ character Smithy got down on one knee and finally proposed to Nessa.
Its final episode promises to be the crown jewel in the BBC’s Christmas Day programming.
James previously broke down in tears as he discussed the show’s ending.
Appearing on Virgin Radio, he said: “Last night we were like ‘oh that’s it now. We’ve finished. We’ll never write anything that Pam says again.
“We’ll never write interior Gwen’s house.
“We’ll never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn’s done.’
“We just looked at each other and we were like ‘wow – isn’t that amazing?'”
