I get ashamed at the doctor’s as my mum named me after a FRUIT – she’s not Gwyneth Paltrow, I hate meeting new people
A WOMAN with an ”embarrassing” name has revealed she hates introducing herself to strangers – and even uses a nickname to avoid awkward situations.
Finding the moniker for your tot can be quite the task – while some parents pass baby names down through the generations, others look for inspiration elsewhere.
The horrified woman took to Reddit to share her unusual moniker[/caption]The latter is exactly what one mum decided to do when naming her daughter – but instead of seeking ideas from her favourite TV show or book, the mother found it in her favourite fruit.
Taking to Reddit, the daughter said: “My name is Apple.
”I only hate my name when I’m around strangers because they stare (for example: doctor‘s office) or when I introduce myself because people always think I’m lying.
”In high school, everyone started calling me Apps and I loved it.”
After hearing her daughter complain about the unusual pick, the mum claimed Apple was a popular name in her home country, Laos.
However, the daughter went on: “I think it becomes strange since I was born in the US so it got translated.
”The only other person I know named Apple is Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter.”
But it’s not just the Redditor (or the actress’ 20-year-old’s daughter) having an uncommon name – amongst fellow social media users, there were plenty of those who could relate to Apple.
One, for instance, revealed his name which belonged to an animal – and even a renowned American golfer.
Commenting on her name, the person said: “My name is Tiger, just imagine my troubles.
”Be glad that you’re just an Apple, stay that way.”
Another joked: “They’re probably wondering why on earth your name isn’t keeping the doctors away.”
A third user chimed in: “I love the name Apple! Apps are perfect too.
”My cousin’s step-sister has the same name and probably got all the looks too growing up but I would definitely name a kid that.”
Sharing their own unusual moniker, one Redditor added: “I used to absolutely hate my name, and was insistent that I was going to change it as soon as I turned 18.
”My name is Rave. I love it now and am so glad I didn’t change it.”
How do you change your name by Deed Poll?
WHILE you don't have to follow a legal process to change your name, you may need a Deed Poll to change the moniker on documents such as your driver's license and passport.
To get a Deed Poll, you can either make an ‘unenrolled’ deed poll yourself or apply for an ‘enrolled’ Deed Poll.
For the former, you have to be 16 or over, and you will need two witnesses, over the age of 18, to sign the Deed Poll.
You can use your signed deed poll straight away as proof of your new name.
For an ‘enrolled’ Deed Poll you must apply to the Royal Courts of Justice, and it will cost you £49.32.

This comes after one Jurassic World super fan was slammed for giving her kids ”silly” names inspired by dinosaurs.
The friend of the mother revealed that after watching the cult favourite classic, the woman and her partner named their firstborn Trexton – inspired by T-Rex.
“Her daughter has a relatively normal name but then she named her youngest boy Roarex to continue the theme.
