The BBC never apologised to me over Blue Peter bullying – it left me a gibbering wreck, reveals Yvette Fielding
YVETTE Fielding has revealed the BBC never apologised to her for the bullying she faced on Blue Peter.
The seasoned TV presenter, 55, became one of the show’s youngest hosts when she joined in 1987.
Yvette went on to co-create and star in Most Haunted with her husband Karl Beattie[/caption]Yvette was just 18 at the time and catapulted into overnight fame, being beamed into millions of households everyday.
However, Yvette said she faced bullying on the flagship BBC show and described her first year on set as ‘traumatic’.
She was left a tearful, gibbering wreck following allegedly ferocious roastings by Blue Peter’s legendary boss, Biddy Baxter.
Yvette previously said: “You were always told, ‘Biddy wants to see you in the beat room’, which was like a store cupboard.
“She’d sit behind this desk and basically tell me I was fat, I was useless, and at one point she said, ‘The only thing you’re good at is being with the dog’.
“They call it workplace anxiety nowadays, but it was really abuse.”
Despite speaking out, Yvette said the BBC have never reached out to offer her an apology.
She exclusively told The Sun: “They have never apologised to me.”
The mum-of-two continued: “It doesn’t bother me. I’m not bitter or unhappy about it. It was an experience.
“I went through it. And, you know, it gave me balls of steel to be able to carry on in this industry and to be able to start my own production company and with my husband.
“You have to be very strong to be able to be in this industry. You’ve got to have some guts.”
The BBC declined to comment when contacted by The Sun.
Yvette also recently told how Rolf Harris assaulted her and she was left alone with Jimmy Savile.
The former I’m A Celebrity campmate went on to co-create and star in paranormal investigation series Most Haunted with her second husband Karl Beattie.
The presenter has released her latest book Most Haunted Castles, which recounts some of her spookiest experiences.
She’s currently on tour, travelling across the country with her Most Haunted Live stage show.
