Hogwarts Legacy 2 is company’s ‘biggest priority’ despite Quidditch Champions release
HARRY Potter: Quidditch Champions has just launched but it seems that Warner Bros. has other priorities.
While fans have only just dove into the latest game set in Harry Potter’s Wizarding World, another could be on the horizon.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 is a priority for Warner Bros.[/caption]Hogwarts Legacy was one of the biggest and best-selling games of all time, in a year that was full of impressive titles.
It sold more than 24million copies in the first year, and has made well over $1billion (£750million).
Following this huge success, it seems natural that Warner Bros. would want to make a series out of the game’s success.
According to a report by Variety, Warner Bros. has made creating a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy its biggest priority.
Despite it being a priority, comments from Warner Bros. chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels seem to suggest that it is not yet in development.
He says: “Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road.
“So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that business in our strategic outlook here.”
Wiedenfels goes on to discuss Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which he describes as a “miss” for the gaming department of the entertainment company.
Despite this, Warner Bros. seems to maintain faith in gaming as an entertainment medium that it will see success in.
Suicide Squad was developed by Rocksteady, a studio known for its library of excellent single-player games, such as the Batman Arkham series.
This is why people were confused by the decision to make Suicide Squad a live-service game rather than a single-player action adventure title like those the studio is known for.
Fans believed that the success of live-service games like Fortnite influenced executives to push for this style of game.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League received poor reviews from players and critics alike, with a rating of 60 on review aggregate site Metacritic.
While people were disappointed by the live-service gameplay, there was genuine praise for the writing and the game’s humour.
Despite Rocksteady’s merits, several developers were laid off from the studio following the game’s failure.
It’s too early to tell how successful the Harry Potter spin-off Quidditch Champions will be as it was only released a few days ago.
