‘Definitely not’ people exclaim as woman shows off her wedding guest dress and trolls say she looks like a ‘dalmatian’
PICKING out the right wedding outfit is not an easy task – from making sure you stick to a dress code to not upstaging the bride.
There’s so many rules it can be hard to keep up on what’s appropriate to wear.
People warned the bride might not be happy with her attire[/caption] she wondered if the dress was too cream to wear as a guest[/caption]And one woman’s wedding guest dress has left people warning her to change her mind.
Taking to social media, the young woman asked if the dress was appropriate for an upcoming wedding she would be attending.
She was clearly already having reservations about her attire as she started the post saying: “Wedding guest dress – it is cream.
“But it’s covered in polka dots, does that make it acceptable?”
The dress was a maxi style with a drop waist in a cream colour with giant black polka dots all over.
She added: “Love this dress and the lady in the shop described it as the ‘perfect’ wedding guest dress but obviously she wants to sell it.
“I just keep thinking it’s a lot of cream.”
The young woman revealed it wasn’t a style she would typically go for.
She continued: “I wouldn’t usually go polka dot but my husband spotted this and in fairness the cut and fit felt wonderful and really flattering irl (in real life). It’s a bit different to my usual.”
While it might have been polka dot many warned her not to go for the dress.
The post shared to the Mumsnet forum garnered attention from plenty of people.
They were quick to share their thoughts on the dress and many were in favour of her leaving it in her wardrobe on the wedding day.
One person wrote: “I can’t help thinking you’d just look like a Dalmatian.”
Another commented: “No, it’s definitely not the perfect wedding guest dress. Firstly it’s a bit boring. It’s giving workwear and it definitely looks too close to white. You need to remember that photos may be taken in different lighting that makes it look more white too.”
Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette
If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.
- Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
- Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
- Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
- Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
- Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.
“Nope. Find another colour. I’d be a bit annoyed if I was the bride,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “It’s a beautiful dress but I still wouldn’t wear it to a wedding. Anyone who wears an overly white or cream dress to a wedding is very much a look at me person IMO. It’s only one colour to avoid so not hard to do.”
“Please don’t wear this to a wedding. Wear it for another occasion, but I wouldn’t wear it to a wedding,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Sorry, I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding. As I bride, I would not have cared if a guest wore this personally, but a fair few brides would. You have every other colour to choose from, I think it’s decent to be respectful and just not wear white, ivory or cream.”
